I guess I somewhat agree... :-? I enjoy teaching the game of fastpitch, so with the ability to coach a HS team nearly everyday for 3 months, and watching there skill levels develop and advance, is exciting. You don't always get the dedication from the HS players as you normally do in travel, but you normally don't have the "Prima Donnas' in HS ball like you see in travel, so there are definately tradeoffs.

In a perfect world I would like to coach travel ball caliper of players, everyday, where everyone plays for the team and not for themselves. ;)

North,

It's just my opinion, but I think the most valuable quality your girls possess is leadership. The more experienced girls teach and support the younger or less experienced girls. When one girl is doing something incorrectly one of the other girls is often the first to help her out. They play for the team, but they also play for each other. The team has some natural athletes, but it also has strong leaders, hard workers, and eager learners (OK not all of them are all things, but there is a good mix).

They have high expectations of themselves and of their teammates. I wouldn't be afraid to bet that a girl showing up on that field not ready to work would hear about it quickly and loudly from several directions. They aren't mean or cruel, but they don't cut each other (or the coaches) any slack either!

I hope you know that the work you do with the team and with their little sisters is greatly appreciated!

First (Thanks)

They mean a lot to me and it has nothing to do with softball!

God Bless the dedicated high school coaches. They have a completely different set of circumstances to deal with than travel coaches. The basic limitations of players in their districts, working with A.D.s for schedules, gym time, getting their equipment ordered and fields prepped, and scheduling buses. The paperwork is endless. Let's not forget the fundraisers. They may have in any one year too many players at one position and too few at another. God help them when they have a few travel players competing for the same positions with the all knowing travel parents to help them make decisions. On top of all that they need to compete with the #1 sport in high school,...DRAMA.
Getting just a taste of high school coaching has been an eye opening experience. I can assure you it's not a mid Feb. to June job.
I personally believe this is why high school ball is the best , to be on topic. The pride which each player and coach wears when they put their school colors on does not compare with the ever changing faces and rosters of hand picked travel teams.

All coaches need to have the passion and desire that North puts forth!

It is great to have great coaches but as far as high school being the best no thanks. With the upper classman putting down the lower classman. All the politics and favoritism that goes on. Give me travel where the best girl gets to play.

Our upperclassmen, which includes me and my friends, do not put down our underclassmen. We help them to be the best they can be and to improve their fundamentals. Its sad that upperclassmen at some schools can't help out the girls that look up upon them.
