I was at an NSA tournament this weekend and saw the same call blown 3 times by 3 different umpires. During the tournament, I was talking to a group of umpires and asked them the right call for the situation and out of the 6 of them, only 1 knew the right call. Why is this rule so hard for people to understand??
If a batter swings at a ball and the ball hits them they do not get 1st base, it is a strike!!!
Rule 1 - Definitions
sec. 7 Batter Hit By Pitch: A legal or illegally pitched ball that hits the batter's person or clothing, provided the batter does NOT strike at the pitched ball.
Rule 7 - Batting
sec. 7e The umpire calls a strike for each pitched ball swung at and missed which touches any part of the batter.
sec 7g The umpire calls a strike when a pitched ball hits the batter while the ball is in the strike zone
Thank you, I feel better now.
