Those are NCAA rules, not ASA.

I personally don't think it is optional - I'm just curious why the wording is different for HBP than BB.

11.16.1 was new last year for NCAA and has been adopted this year for NFHS. It has not been adopted by ASA yet.

Oops....lol.

A batter hit by a pitch must go to first base. There's no option to continue batting if you want to.

bretman; Are you Okay?

That was one of the shortest posts we've ever seen you make...:)

Glad I can corrupt y'all. It has me laughing each and every time I imagine that dog saying it out loud. (Musty, Lenski, Hitter, Paul, Gopher.... I know dogs don't talk... it's ok... it's a joke)

My PC bit the dust, so I was limited to posting from my cell phone on my lunch hour. That will tend to keep the word count down!

But I could go on for another three pages with hit-by-pitch rules... ;&

In college a batter does not have to make any attempt to get out of the way.....we have asked umpires several times to let batter take a ball instead of base and they have allowed it....we want our batters to hit , bottom line.
