Assuming this went something like this. A baseball swing is completely different then a softball swing! Its amazing how video analysis like RVP etc. can show the similarities.

Probably not the point of the picture and from a guy that has only been coaching a couple of years and basically everything I know is from watching videos on the internet and trying to determine which ones are correct, IMO, the softball player is doing it better. Everything looks the same to me except for the back foot. The baseball player looks like he is dragging it where the softball player looks like she is pushing off it. Again not at all an expert, but my understanding is she should have more power in her swing by doing so.

A better link, This one has directions

Bat Speed Products
Thanks. Not sure how it only registers bat speed at contact when hitting a ball off tee.

Seems like you could do a lot of experimental comparisons:
- Hitting ball off tee vs. only swinging bat
- Hitting ball in different locations - inside/outside, high/low
- Swinging different length and/or weight bats

:lmao:Seen Bustos use it and we had a clinic with over 100 kids use this device. It would appear its accurate. Just keep in mind the whip action of a Whip Hit will create more bat speed, but hitting those hanging tires over the years perhaps helped her bat speed! Or was it the bat axe cutting wood!

I didn't question the accuracy of the device, just the claim that it measures bat speed at contact. Like any radar gun, it's accuracy is dependent on how it's operated.

Bat speed has an inherent issue that the whole bat isn't moving the same linear speed. Consequently, a reading off the end of the bat would be considerably higher (6-?%) than the sweet spot. Which reading do you think is more accurate and which one would hitters' dads would report? ;&

I hope these catch on so that bat speed can provide us with the same entertainment as pitch speeds and home-to-first times. :lmao:

SPR is set up behind the plate in a stationary from Directly behind the tee. During your swing the only way the very end of the bat could enter the zone is if the shoulder is pulled out and the bat shortened. For the many times I have used one of these, When mechanics break down the swing speed suffers. The cone is set up to read the sweet spot of the bat coming thru. You have to try to get just the tip of the bat to make it thru the zone And in my opinion the swing speeds difference is negligible.
