homeschoolers being sought

Just some interesting info that you won`t see in your local news.
After years of being rejected by most universities, home-school graduates are now being sought by many universities. Why? Because in time those universities which have accepted them have seen that home-schoolers perform better as a group than do public school graduates; they are more self-disciplined, more mature, and have mastered the tools of learning. Barmak Nassirian, Deputy Director of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, says that it has taken about a decade for home-schoolers and colleges to get to know each other better. In other words, it has taken that long for the colleges to catch on.
Incidentally, home-schooled children continue to out-perform graduates of public schools. A study entitled "Strengths of Their Own: Home Schoolers Across America," which included 5,402 home-schooled children from1,657 families, found that home-schooled children scored 30-37 points higher on standardized tests than did public school students. Congratulations, but where is the softball correlation? BTW, if my kids were home schooled they would be idiots the way they listen to me. ::)

What do the studies show about their ability to function in the real world world after being sheltered from it for the first 18 years of their lives? You know, book smarts is a pretty irrelevant thing in real life. A lot of them probably grow up to be college professors, most of them are social misfits.

Actually, most of them are not social misfits. Most home schooled children are active in many of the same activities that other students are involved in.

Actually, most of them are not any smarter than the kids who go to public schools. ?Of course for that to be an accurate statement we would need to know most of the students we are talking about.

If not we are just generalizing.

My daughter is homeschooled and is not a misfit at all. Just ask any of her many, many friends and her softball team and oh yeah her boyfriend! Wow I guess she does seemed sheltered.
Just because a child is homeschooled does not mean they are sheltered or a misfit. It sometimes means they are tired of going to a school that's more interested in what you wear or who you date or any of the other "BIG DRAMA" issues that seems to distract from getting a quality education.
My daughter is in the "social circle" and no one seems to care that she is homeschooled, well except for the H.S Varsity coach that has been after her since freshman year to be his starting 1st baseman. ;) She chooses not to play school ball.
So before anyone just groups all homeschoolers together just remember that not all private school kids are alike and not all public school kids are alike. Just like not all homeschooled kids are alike. JMHO
