Scenario: Your daughter is a stud softball player that plays for an elite softball organization. She is about to start softball in High School. Her High School team's coach and team suck. They have won 3 games in 2 years and last in the league 4 straight years. A neighboring district has one of the best teams in the state. Would you be willing to sell your house and move into that district? Not allow her to play for the High School? I hear about many boys moving to play football, would you consider it for softball?

If she wants to play school ball with her friends and dosen't mind the losing i'm cool with that.

Plus I like my house - and am happy with the neighborhood.

What about teams like N. Canton Hoover? Are those girls looked at in High School?

May daughter's highs school team won 33 games in 4 years.Did it to be with friends, compete against schools whre she saw travel players she knows and old school-supposed to play school sports. It DID NOT set her back like some may think.Travel ball got her the D1 scholarship.
The 1st college look she got actually came from playing the underclassman all-star tournament(Mainly Ohio coaches attended)

I can't imagine moving so my DD could go to another school to play softball. Now open enrollment could be a different story ... or going to a private school with a good program ...

No!! Like Cobb said, I love my house. Kids need to learn to work through tough situations and not run to a supposed green Pasteur. If school didn't offer proper academia...another story, then I would find a private school.

Unfortunately some parents will do it, and I think it is absolutely CRAZY !!! There are four times as many that will open in roll at another school just for softball even at risk of the school not being as strong academically also crazy.

Then there are the H.S. Coaches that actively go out and recruit kids for there H.S. program from other communities with dreams of a state title, and believe me they are out there.

Yes there will be a handful or two of Ohio schools there usually.

Yes, but the players have been contacting colleges through their travel organizations.

It doesn't matter if it School or Travel Ball, * No college coach shows up at a game hoping to discover an unknown player. They already have names of players they're in which they're interested. *

Seems pretty extreme, it would seem if the DD is playing on top line travel teams, she would certainly get all the exposure she needs at Showcases. What may be interesting to hear is if any college coaches actually attend High School games other than maybe from Districts up.

When you give a "Thumbs Up" the icon turns into a "Thumbs Down" which does nothing other than giving you the option of "undoing" your "Thumbs Up." If you hover your mouse over his "Thumbs Up" count, you will see that you have given a "Thumbs Up" and it is included in the count.

I was at a DI camp with DD#2 this fall when the head softball coach saw a high school sweatshirt I was wearing. The coach walked up to me and said they were at a regular season game in the spring for the high school. It was a great matchup, and I had a pretty good idea who they might have been there to see.

So I can say that at least in this case, a big time coach did in fact attend a regular season high school softball game.

Before the big crash...there was a thread on players (mainly in Northern Ohio) changing schools like they change socks. At first I was a skeptic but after seeing post after post about players changing schools there has to be some truth to it...

True you may not get any looks or be recruited playing HS ball...that being said, you better believe that it is a red flag if you don't play in HS! One item that a college coach is interested in is how a potential recruit handle's time management (academic vs athletic work load). They want to see a recruit that maintains high grades while practicing and playing 6 days a week. I know as a travel coach I strongly...I mean very strongly encourage my players/parents to enjoy their HS experience. I will go as far as to say that in 13 years of coaching travel ball, I've never coached a player that considered not playing and representing her HS.

This thread started with the question of moving districts to be on a high caliber HS team, not comparing HS to travel, or having anything to do with recruiting. Certainly with open enrollment and even without, there have been players switch schools to play on a more competitive team. It happens, they question was would you?

its about percentages.

High school on average...not so much. Travel ball, much more. Like Lou said, you have to ask the school out for a date before they know you exist for a response. 1000 discussion on recruiting already.

I have personally seen someone sell and move to another district. School first, softball 2nd, but it sounded like a better story to say "I left to play for so and so". It happens, but again, percentages are low on this one.

For N. Canton Hoover, I'd bet you they show up late in the state tourney. Again, 52 days are very valuable and to go see 2 schools and "maybe" a couple recruits for their recruiting plan, has to be something odd IMO because a player 'might' be on a fairly solid travel program already. Now, smaller schools, it may be ideal. It's relative for sure.

Any Hoover folks on here to add value to this speculation?
