official tryouts are in Feb. So how do you know whom is on the team(s) to sell stuff on 15 Nov???
Let's say your DD sells a bunch and makes the program $200. and then Isn't good enough and gets cut come Feb. Gee, can't see why any player & parent would be upset with that.
If nothing else but for conversation sake, I am glad you started this thread. Things have been too quiet on here.
While I agree with you, the topic in general does raise a lot of questions. First to me was when should a team try to do any fundraising in today's world? It seems the schools' organizations fall over themselves trying to get out there with their "gimmick" in an effort to get their share of the "water from the well" before it goes dry. I'm attempting to be funny when I say people in the school district might consider a levy to fund these organizations rather than be victim to the "Door to Door" sales tactics the kids use to get to them first. They might be money ahead to simply pass a levy in November. lol.
To our knowledge, we DON'T know who's on the team and I say this referring that not only about any incoming freshmen but include upperclassmen as well. Some of these incoming freshmen could indeed take some spots as nobody to our knowledge is safe. The entire dynamic is nothing but smoke at this point. The reasoning for such a venture is suspect.
Are there parents out there that actually believe it is their right to have their daughter selected for a high school program? Are they that naive? Do they truly believe that if they sell the most they will be rewarded and if so, with what? Is the reward making the team? Is the reward supposed to include playing time?
I suppose from a school coach's perspective they could consider adding a spot or 2 on the roster for a couple of kids that have parents that are superior salespeople and fundraising gurus. Who's to say they wouldn't be thrown a bone. Nobody says that high school coaches perform with the utmost integrity. Some are no different than the travel coach that would put 15-18 kids in their roster simply to collect the fees with no intention of ever playing them. They believe the simple experience of getting a uniform should suffice although in school ball they probably need to turn them back in. lol.
