Other than your own team, ?which tryouts are you planning on attending. ?For the teams not listed - and those listed - state the team, age and why.

This should help the tryouts.

being new to softball, I don't even know where half of the teams on this list are from. I checked the team registry and most are not on there. I'm looking for teams in the cleveland area, like under an hour drive. any suggestions out there. Oh i'm looking for 12u. :-?

I'm guessing Maddogs, Wolfpack, Cinci Elite, Ohio Ice (NE Ohio), etc. votes are going under "Others"... Maybe start "Part 2" and add a few of those? -P.S. Great idea for coaches to plan in advance!! ? :)

The Tri-County Hurricanes are located in Willoughby. Try outs will be held August 18th & 19th. Great organization top to bottom!

It would have been nice to be able to list every team in Ohio. ?As one poster stated, it helps the organizations prepare for their tryouts. ?Interesting poll. Many teams are away at their nationals at this time and I will venture to say that voting will pick up after their return.

do you research before going to try outs.. you should check out the teams at tournaments through out the year because if you wait to talk to parents at try outs you are only talking to the one's coming back and they obviously are happy. the one's not coming back obviously had problems. (and not all their problems are legit or would be yours) that's why you need to check things out. Do they pick up players at the end of the year? do they rotate pitchers? do they bunt when they should? most problems people have with a team could have been picked up if you watched them thru the season.

Excellent post. All parents should take note of this, especially those new to softball. When you go to tournaments - watch the other teams. Observe the players, coaches and parents. How do each group conduct themselves? Does the team play sound fundamental softball? Does there seem to be any attitudes? Do they show respect for their coaches and the other team? Do they listen? Do they appear to be having fun? (clue- check the dugout after the game - did they pickup everything and leave it clean? This may sound funny but I have always found that the good teams respect the tournament and will clean up after themselve and will leave the dugout better than they found it. It is a sign of CLASS)

Also, sit among the team's parents and listen. Is this a group of parents that you would like to sit with at future games? Does there seem to be any friction? Do they cheer and support all players and the coaches or do they only cheer for the DD?

Doing the above is probably the best way to get a feel for teams in case you decided to try out for another team in the fall. Arm yourself with knowlege in the easiest way possible - watch the games.

Johnnies - that is excellent advice. Many parents would do well heeding your words.

I might add to watch and observe the way the team plays as well as the coaches and parents conduct. Does the team, coaches or the parents do things that might be considered "shady" in most softball circles. (shouting at opposing players while batting or pitching, noisemaking/rocks in bottles to distract players, shouting pitch locations to their batters, unsportsmanlike chants/cheers, constantly challenging umpires, stalling in a time limit game, etc.) You will observe the above, to some degree, at almost every tournament. You should write those names down so you can remember which tryouts to avoid.

DD is planning to attend the HoO Prowl, Lancaster Thunder & Ohio Cougars. She'd like to find a group of 15U that have the potential to stay together over the next couple years.

:D Stingrays 11U team is back this year! Last year, they were combined with the 12U. Coaches have a lot of big plans for the 11U team in the comming season. Particularly looking for 11U pitchers. Call Brian at 740 667-6463.
