We have only heard great things about this facility and it's tournaments. Here is the take...................
*Saturday's games were a great event. Even though it rained and slightly cooler there was no delays, things ran very smoothly. Games times were right on.
*Saturday night, the sky's opened up and rain fell. Everyone knew the rain was coming. Why were the tarps on SB1 and SB2 not used? we were told its because they had holes in them. Then someone said it was a money thing for hiring of staff. It set the whole Sunday schedule into a two hour delay. Mind you if the two fields with tarps with covers were used, it would have been a lot different.
*Sunday games now shortened to 60 mins... Ok, no problem been there done that before. played the rain delay game also. In the 12U's with 15 teams. you just knew that was gonna be a problem. It seemed they wanted to accomodate the 10's and 14's with less teams. and they did as they played their championship games.
*The 12u's got down to the semi's at about 5:15pm. We just received the latest shower and a lot of the fields were a mess. M6 and M8 were playable and the grounds keepers said only two bags of field dry were needed to get them ready. Tour director said no..... We are flipping a coin to decide this one. He was directed to put no more money into to fixing up the fields. (What no more money into fixing up fields in a NSA tourney!) 12u had a team from Ontario in the semi's, two Pgh teams, and a team from Poland. The team from Canada was furious. (I know, it's a chance they take, not knowing the elements) BUT, something should have beeen done better to accomodated that team. Guys were handing out money to pay for the bags of field dry. Bottom line, the two best teams (both #1 seeds) were ousted in the first coin flip and the team from Poland beat the Canadian team on a coin filp to win the 12u's. I don't think any of those team's would have felt the satisfaction of winning this tourney on a coin flip. I hope the Poland coach left the trophy there.
*To make matters worst. a girl had her arm broken in the earlier 12u game (played in the rain) on the final play of the quarterfinal game.(the ump yelled time as the collosion occured) A colloision at first base could have been avoided with the use of orange safety bags at first. We ask to the director about the safety bag, "they have them but don't use them".(ouch, might want to rethink that one from now on) That game should have been call due to the home team was winning with two minutes left on the clock, they were up, with no outs, up 5-2.
Bottom line. our take is that the facility operator and the tournament director blew the Sunday for a good finish. They knew the rain was gonna be a factor and didn't seem to care..........
