Lasers tourney observations

That's a rare one!

Should have been an immediate dead ball. The umpire may then place runners on whichever base he judges they would have reached had the ball not become stuck in his equipment.

If the runner was stealing on the pitch, that would probably be second base- treat is as a wild pitch/passed ball.

If she only took off after a delay, after seeing the ball was stuck, probably keep her on first.

Definitly rare. I think the runner was stealing anyway. It all ended up working out probably the way it should. It was just funny to see the ump just stand there with the ball stuck between his mask and chest protector. I mean he just stood there like a tree waiting for our catcher to find the ball.

I would say that a very rare occurence of a team going 6-0 between Friday and Saturday, number 1 seed in the pool, should not be playing an 8am game on Sunday in the winners bracket. Never had that happen before in any tournament.

One thing kinda funny/weird and some thought inappropriate happen to us on Friday. Our whole team setup camp with a camper and canopies next to the reserved parking at the 12u fields and one ump shows up and decided to undress down to his underwear not once but 4x. Getting all geared up and putting on his cup and leg guards, then he pulls his pants up, then a couple minutes later they are back down to his ankles. Guess he forgot to power ?? Who knows. This continued for a good 15 minutes with the pants up and down no shirt on standing there in his drawers with a jock strap on. Luckly the girls had left to get warmed up so only the parents got the show. I probably would have tried to hide myself somewhat better like the other umps did but this guy wasn't shy. I personally didn't care I mean you see people 90% naked at a beach with speedo's with their butt crack and more showing. If our girls had been around I would have thought differently but the area was packed so I am sure some girls had to have seen it.

I loved the format and the competition. Lasers did a fantastic job keeping everything running smoothly. I would love to keep this one on our tourney list!

My wife got me a pocket radar for fathers day. My first time using one so i timed everything from pitchers to birds to sunflower seed spitting velocity, lol.

Most 10u girls were low 40's. Two of em broke 50. What was interesting was the low velocity of the few 14u and 16u
games i caught at jfk....i clocked 4 or 5 of them TOPPING OUT in the low/mid 50s

I would say from what I saw at 14u it was all about the making that ball move. I know my dd talked about the spin on pitches more than speed.

As you use the pocket radar more you will find that the speeds people report and the actually speeds you see on the radar don't match.

The only movement in the 40's will be the slow-pitch arc. Still, it can be very effective.

There were a pair of catchers shin guards found at Civic Park. PM me if you know who they belong to.

I would recommend having a copy of a particular age group brackets if they are playing games at that ball park. There were no 18U brackets at Bishop Park. It would have helped eliminated some confusion. Easy fix.
