Looking for advice on what type of weighted control hitting balls to purchase for a 12/14 u team. While doing research, I see that there are various sizes and weights. What brand, sizes and weights have worked best? I'm curious also if they are an effective hitting tool. Thanks in advance.

Be careful. The tendency is to use these balls as warm up balls. Be very sure you are using them as they are intended to be used. Just a few swings with them a session. That said the jury is out on their effectiveness. In the old days players hit a tire to simulate hitting through the ball. IMO there are many other methods to simulate that explosion than hitting a weighted ball.

DD has the atomic TCB's. It really helped her in swinging through the ball. BUT, and I cation, as Falrays mentioned, une them only as they are intended to be used. There was a galring warning on the package telling us to start with one swing with the ball one week and build up to no more than 12 (I think) mixed in with normal softballs. We don't use them no more than once a week with maybe 10 swings.

The smaller TCB balls are great for warm up, that's what we use them for. The girls can drive the ball and it's not going much past the front tosser, we do 4-6 swings depending on the kid and we rotate.

We use the smaller ball for hitting. It is great for a soft-toss warmup for a game.
Players have to drive the ball, hit it square, doesn't sail off AND no one gets hurt.
Every once in awhile a wiffle will shoot out and nail someone. I also use the small ball for some pitching drills.

The giant ball is not a versatile, can't be thrown over hand and just doesn't feel right.
