Why is it that every post where a team is looking for 1-2 (or realistically 4+) players. They always indicate, " need 1-2 players to join strong core of 5-6 returning wonderful players". The skeptic in me questions whether that core is really strong or really wonderful players.

Also, Nothing says "my current player's suck", than that ad looking for a "#1 bracket ready pitcher to round out our solid roster of showcase ready players."

Just things you read that make you go "hmmm:.

You're absolutely right. But as you know, these type of posts will soon be cut by at least a third. Tis the season for teams starting to fold due to lack of players.

"El Foldo" season is currently in full swing. surprisingly I am seeing more and more older aged teams (14u and up) that are trying to hang on and run with a roster of say 10-11 girls max. a fools errand at best.

Seems to me there are less and less girls willing to be a part of a team atmosphere and expect to play every play rather than sit. I kinda see their point when they pay the same amount of money as the ones that are playing every play. It doesn't matter what's right or makes sense.

I do get a kick out of the marketing skills of some coaches trying to solidify a roster. I'm okay with not doing this anymore. I'll stick to helping the girls that want it and teaching what I know and leave others to deal with the stress.

The game in general appears to be in trouble in my area. The girls being more comfortable to quit and the families willing to support leaving the game due to costs and the time they get back to do things they want to do is letting the sport slide backwards. For many of these girls their local REC is fulfilling enough.

We are losing the battle.

see it more and more the expectation of doing the min and expecting coaches to cave. Unfortunately, they are in for rude awakening if they make it to college level (or even competitive HS team). Roster is 20+, multiple at each position and if your effort is crap, results crap and you're not working to improve to earn that play time.... I expect to see school departure announcement.

Example, the little speedy girl , lefty slapper prototype if you will. mediocre arm, little batting power, and strictly gets on base. Plays every inning at say 2b or LF. Well, commits to college and is strictly used as sub runner. And she's not happy.

Or the bigger power hitting 1B only type, gets to the next level and all of a sudden there's someone who can play lights out defense at 1b and hits just as good.... limited play time cause she never worked hard to improve all aspects of her craft. And she's not happy.

The list of oopsie's and 'told ya so' tales is long. Eventually, the switching teams or create own team carousel routine.... reaches an end. Not usually the end the player (+parents) were dreaming of.

The game has seen a lot of changes the past 10 years some good, most bad.

From what I have seen in our area (SW Ohio) the game seemed to peek between around 2017. After 2018 Rec leagues started folding, many HS teams dropping Freshman or JV teams and the quality of varsity play especially pitching has gone way down.
Travel teams / organizations seemed to go away from playing for nationals and more of quantity in place of quality for the ones that could field teams.
Some long-time tournaments and well-respected tournaments stopped running in the 2-hour radius around our area.

Colleges have dropped JV and Varsity programs and athletes that are not getting much of anything for playing $$$ wise are passing on the sport at the secondary level or choosing to go Club that that has seen a spike in better play.

Hopefully the sport will get back to the way it was a few years ago.

i don't disagree except to point out that the number of select teams in the SWO / Cincy area is more than ever. But there are also more teams of lesser skill as well. The rise of the C/Rec teams claiming to be B level is incredible.
