I really wasn't sure what the title to this topic should be because my thoughts for this subject are all over the place.
A little background about me, My Daughters never played Travel softball, only House/Rec league for 10 Years. I coached almost all of those years. I really loved most of my players. I think all Coaches would say that! In house league you were given a team and that was your team for the year. In our League you could have those girls on your team for 2 to 4 Years depending their age. Even in House/Rec league you can have issues with parents or coaches but they seam to be minor compared to travel.
By the way our House League has 550 players.

For the last 4 Years I have been getting more and more involved with Travel Softball. I run a Charity Playday/Friendly the last 4 years for 12U and 14U.
I also have been apart of one of the better Tournaments in the northeast for the last 4 years. The reason I bring that up is I have gotten to know a lot of Coaches,Paremts and Organizations pretty well. A lot of them will share with me whats going on with their Team, they will share sometimes what they are looking for. Parents will come up to me and tell me what's going on with their daughters team and will ask me if I know of any teams that might be looking for their daughter as a sub player. I have been told what coaches are crazy and what parents to stay away from. I am told sometimes confidential information from parents and coaches. Sometimes I have been able to help both parties. So I could be helping and hurting somebody at the same time...

I am that person that has no ties to a Travel Team. I am that guy that just runs a good Tournament/Play Day.

Here is a example of a parent/friend telling me something in the last few days. DD 12U who is already on one of the better Teams in the area is going to tryout for a Team in a different state 7 hours away. I was like what?? What about the Team you committed to. Then I see on Facebook they did go to the tryout and she is wearing the Team sweatshirt. Mind you this is a 3rd team being put together in the offseason. I have many examples that just drive me NUTS!

So here is my problem, I LOVE THE GAME OF SOFTBALL, I COULD WATCH IT ON TV FOR HOURS, I LOVE TOURNAMENT SOFTBALL!

I am really having a hard time with tryout season from August to September. Hearing and seeing all the stuff or crap that goes on!

I have a hard time with Coaches that volunteer their time to make their Team better and that includes your daughters and parents jumping ship as soon as they can because they think it will help their daughter. A lot of times they don't even know the coach or his coaching style. Just that its bigger or better organization!

I have a hard time with Coaches always working their angles trying to get better players even during the season. A lot of Promises are made.
Even Coaches that do it within their own Organization.

One last thing that really gets me, Everybody thinks its the other guys that are doing it. (Parents and Coaches)

I really love talking softball with people but it can lead to me knowing to much of the dirty little secrets or the negative side of things.

I have met so many nice people because of softball! Friends that I will have for the rest of my life hopefully!

My wish for the New Year is just a little more Loyalty, Integrity,Commitment and Honesty in the game I love in 2015!

Great post Dave. From the short time I spent with you in October, I learned that you had all of the characteristics that you wish for in 2015. We need more like you in this sport.
