Nagel Blue: defeated Little Miami (yellow), 10-9; defeated Madeira, 12-2; lost to Loveland, 6-5. Record: 2-1.
(that's last week, they haven't posted any scores for this week yet)

Thanks Musty! We play them Thursday at Nagle.

OP - hang in there. Most MS teams are at least half rec players and half travel ball players. Our team falls into this range.

Ross won last night 10-9 or something like that over Liberty Silver. Good game and it went back-n-forth. Wish they were all like that. Blasted Kings "A" on Monday 22-1 or so.

We played Princeton last year. If I remember correctly, our main pitcher threw about 10 pitches in the first inning. After that, we threw every other pitcher we had, each pitching about one inning. The game ended by mercy rule. Just about half of our team were 6th graders. Princeton has a long way to go but at least they are out there trying to get better.

Being an embarrassed Princeton grad.... we played them last year and Kid you not... 4 pitches cleared the backstop and hit parents watching the game... and I'm not saying these were foul balls. They left the pitchers hand and cleared the backstop!!!! Can't wait to face them this year :cap::rolleyes:

Len,

I know I deffinately will- you know if you would have told me we would have 3 losses by a total of only 5 runs at this point I would not have believed it so we really are doing pretty good. As long as they continue to get better and show improvement then we all win.

Hey I umpired CHCA vs Princeton JR High last year and let me tell you- I could not wait to get out of there. I believe I had a couple of those backstop clearing pitches durring my game that day also. I though I was umpiring slow pitch or bowling , I couldn't figure it out.

Just an FYI, when we played Princeton the pitching was not good, it was more like slow pitch but I believe she only had two walks the entire game. Also the have one girl on their team that played third and shortstop, and she was very good. She fields very well and has a cannon for an arm.
I don't believe they made many errors either. They really try very hard and are a young team. They may surprise you in the future as they really seem to want to play ball. They also had a large cheering section which shows the support of the community that I saw no where else that we've played!

At last a report from the northern part of the state: Firelands Middle School, in its 1st softball game ever, beat Sheffield MS 24-14. I am proud to say dd, still a baby in the circle, was Firelands starting pitcher, going all 6 innings with 8 Ks and 10 BBs and 4 hits.

It was underhand slow pitch and if our girls just stood there everyone would have walked. Everyone, but we were anxious to hit and were swinging away. Overhead, grounders, didn't matter. lol Pitcher did a good job with what she knew to do but she clearly never had a fastpitch lesson. Until they get a pitcher they will never win a game. The team did want to play and did have a big cheering section. Hard for a school like that, you can't go recruit a pitcher, you can only go with what you have. They are making the best of what they have to work with and they looked like they were having fun.

Next time, I would think Nagel would offer up one of their own pitchers, seeing how Nagel has 4-5....^_^! Come on Musty, where's the sportsmanship. LOL!

4-5 between two teams. Nagel has been blessed with outstanding pitchers like your DD last year and Beth this year.

School ball is an experience. (it's new to me) Our coach tries to bat the entire line up, if the other coach will let us. I like that. We had coaches say no. Wouldn't let us. Basically said no I want your best 9 only and I want to see them come around more often. Doesn't make any sense. Coaches argue about correct calls because they don't know the rules. Nice thing is the girls have a lot of fun, both sides, win or lose, the girls are having fun.

It happens in ALL ball, Musty. LOL But, this is why many travel ball coaches are AFRAID of middle school stuff and the coaches. Just don't let them advise the girls how to hit and everything will be fine.

Makes no sense. Let as many girls play as possible. It's just a fun game for the girls with no expectations EXCEPT fun !!!!

Great cheering section is great news FOR THE GIRLS... Sounds like to me a great group of parents from that school...having a pitcher or not.
