I've been there a few times, know the smell you are talking about. For the record, I've left that place with sinus issues and headache. It's winter so probably the weather and not the dome.

of course it is something awesome to play in the winter on dirt, however, if anyone works in a lab would do a culture on the dripping/sweating/crying walls and steps...hmmmm

staph or no staph, spano lung or no spano lung its better than playing on an indoor so((er field. My two are in there at least twice a week, one of which has asthma and I have had no issues.

Oh you have issues;&

Some people are taking this the wrong way. Was just asking a simple question. Never played there before, but when I mentioned that we were going to play there that was the first thing they brought up. Sorry if I offended anyone not my intention, some people on here are overly sensitive. Did'nt see anywhere in my paragraph that I was whining.

I have neber played there so I don't know anything about it. You're right about people taking this the wrong way. Yes, people are over sensitive, yes people are easily offended. My dd's and I were watching the original Bad News Bears, and we love the scene where Tanner is by Buttermaker's car and goes off. People just need to start getting tougher skin and not run to the attornies because they were offended. But that is MHO.

Besides, even if the spano had mold; you were infected; and it takes away a couple years of life, them be the diaper wearing years anyway. Just be thankful you're able to play.

Re: sarcasm alert

And for the longest time neither did the coal miners...ever heard of "Black Lung"

my brother-in-law and brother are coal miners. They don't have it yet. If they do, they miss the diaper wearing years anyway.

It's called "Whiner-vapor" and it's use is intended as a sort of disinfectant to keep noisy, weak strains of mammal from setting up permanent residence.

Sometimes kids have a slight noticeable reaction to it's effects, but have figured out on their own that the antidote is available at the snack bar..... a big doughy pretzel and a Powerade.

I take a deep breath as soon as I hit the door to allow my respiratory system to adjust quickly and focus on what is important.... playing softball in the winter. :p

I have been to spano a number of times. I had a little problems with asthma due to the dust, but then again, I have the same problem in the summer with dust. I like spano dome and wish it was closer to Columbus.

The Spano Dome is a steel and cinder block building, so when it's cold outside and warm inside, moisture condenses on the walls. After a full season this can lead to a musty smell. Every fall the Spano brothers disinfect the walls and dirt. Like others have said it is no more dangerous than what your kid brings home from school.

I dont know what musty did to be blamed for the smell:D
