Not softball but my son had 12 letters. Played four years of football (was QB of final four team, all league jr-sr years, all-district sr), wrestled for two years (team MVP as a fresh, 1st team all league both years) then switched to basketball for two years and played baseball all four years (first team all league and all district all for years). Now on scholarship for baseball at Toledo, turned down Michigan. Attended all the showcase events in the fall and went to team camps all winter - hint go on Sundays it does not conflict. Class Valedictorian

It can be done!! Depends on your HS coaches. Daughter now coming up and volleyball and basketball coaches have mandatory demands in the summer. Unfortunately that doesn't work as well - same school as my son!!!

My daughter plays 3 school sports and is still playing fall and travel ball. School sports come first, luckily our fall league plays on Sunday so no conflict there w/ our fall games and we are done w/ school ball before travel season actually picks up. If we miss travel/fall practice we try and go the batting cages for some extra hitting practice and then use the schools ball fields for some pitching and fielding practice. We make it work but it's alot. Sometimes I am more tired than she is from all the runnings.

My DD played the evil commie sport as a toddler but after she started 10u fastpitch she was told to pick one at the select level. She wisely took fastpitch and gave up commie sport. She just started HS and started back at the commie sport and made the high school JV team which is fine. She will do fall ball too but all the TEAM BONDING crapp the commie sport does is really peeing me off. It's a SPORT not a social event so just play ball gosh dang-it.

I have a question to all the veteran moms and dads who have had this issue,How do you tell and or ask your dd who is just as good at one sport as they are at another to make a decision on what to focus on during conflicting schedules?
As my example we all know that if you want to play elite softball you must practice almost year around to compete at high levels but my dd has always been up for the challenge and she has done well, but this year going into highschool she has been asked to play varsity v-ball,she also very good at that but as we all know that takes dedication and practice as well. So the question is what is one to do when both sports overlap each other and she begins to struggle with one?

Those 2 sports don't conflict or overlap. My DD plays softball at a very high level, and plays HS volleyball as well. She considers volleyball her down time, and that's good for them. She's a pitcher so 2 months away from softball in the fall is a good thing. Mid Oct hits and she's in the weight room and throwing in the gym. I say go for it. Now if she played BB that's another story. That I feel is too close to the start of softball season for her to get her softball legs under her.

We have a girl who is on her way to earning 16 varsity letters by the time she graduates. Last year as a freshman lettered in ******, starting point guard in basketball, lettered in track (placed in districts in the 200m, and went to reginals), lettered in softball (2nd team all lorain county, and 2 team all conference). She's an intense kid and all of this packaged in a 4'-11" frame! LOL s o c c er is a banned word?

don't know how many letters mine will have but it will be at least 12 I'd guess. But you need to know our private HS might be in the smallest 5% in Ohio. If you can walk and chew gum you are recruited to play every sport. She will play fastpitch, hoops, track, golf and I'd guess will end up swimming before it's all said and done. Was a team leader in her grade at vball but just did'nt want to play. MD

HS volleyball will most likely conflict with travel softball if your team plays in fall showcases. My dd plays both, but she talked to the hs coach before tryouts so there would be no misunderstanding. The coach still wanted her to play after being told that a softball tourney would take priority. DD knows if she misses practice or a match for a softball tourney, she will get bench time.

Classic Pride and Musty--AMEN! The biggest problem seems to be(out-of-season) the "Voluntary" mandated events the kids must attend or else face censure in the sport-VB, BB, and s----- all have events, camps, open gyms, etc. right during the travel season. I told the softball coach she ought to have a voluntary mandatory "open gym" from 3-5 one day a week for 10 weeks, use up her contact days, since the other coaches scheduled events during her sports summer schedule:rolleyes:. Our school is small, and when you have a sb doubleheader, bball open gym/travel league, and vball open gym/summer league all on the same night, somebody needs slapped... And don't even get me started on the "team bonding" ****.......

It takes a little effort from the athletic department to schedule the summer commitments so that the conflicts are held to a minimum. Our system, on the girls side has conditioning offered in the summer each morning and the BB and Vb have either tues - thurs, or mon. - wed. with very limited weekends. The weekends that are used are planned well in advance so that appropriate plans can be made. Nothing in the summer is mandatory.

If a conflict does come up game competition takes precedent, than would come choice. Ex. open gym - game. Games takes precedent. It just take a little communication, and planning mixed in with a little direction from the AD.

Do 10U/12U/14U girls play winter/spring middle school sports (basketball, track, etc.) while playing for a travel fastpitch team?
