I wouldn't put too much stock in the multiple state thing although the Texas and Indiana thing seems wild. When we were in Chattanooga this summer for nationals, Georgia and Alabama were only a 20 minute drive. The same thing could be said for a team from Cincinnati (multi-state), but reality is the kids there could all be within a 20 minute drive and draw teams from 3 states. The Jefferson county example was a good one. Heck, a team Toledo could even call itself an international team with a drive time of about an hour and 15 minutes.

If they are doing that much work, travel and costs at age ten, I will bet you 50% of those kids will not be playing ball by the time they are 16....... Get the roster, repost it 6 years from now and make me be wrong....

This is a real good idea. Not just for this particular issue but in general. On this forum we have what seems to be a bunch of younger kids parents with tons of questions on how it all works in this sport. We do have a nice handful of those who have been through it and are done. Things have changed for Ohio softball in recent years and things are surely different now.

Lets have the admin save in a file the 10 best controversial threads. Recruiting, early recruiting, showcases, high school vs travel, all the 10U stuff, etc from the crash on until, lets say, end of this calendar year. A time capsule of sorts. Then we can look back and see what advice was right or wrong, what the trends were, etc. Might be really neat to look back in five years.

Maybe we can look back at our own posts and say,"man was I way off" or what I hope is that, "I knew I was right!!"

I have no issue being wrong when I am and that's allot.... But curious how much the "burnout factor comes into play" heck the numbers are staggering of girls that go on to play any level college ball and stop after a year or two if they get that far. Those were ladies who started the lets say sane travel circuit with minimal out of state tournies..... It's just a natural fact that burnout is real. I've had college coaches state they wished the ladies didn't concentrate year round and play other sports as that is real issue. They have done team buildings with their girls and the ladies never touched a basketball or soccer ball......ever......

Once again, it's not for everyone to travel extensively out of state, yes people should monitor the situation with their kids for "burn out" regardless of how much they travel. It's called being a parent, you know just looking out for your child's well being. I will say, and no I don't have any stats in front of me, that probably 5 percent of less of girls playing softball travel and put the amount of time/energy into the sport that is being talked about on this thread.

Good discussion onthis, but things need kept in perspective, not many are doing it and hopefully parents are being open minded and watchful over their children and their needs.

National rankings for 10u teams????

BLAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

There is a "national tournament", it's played in Oklahoma City every year. The rest of it is all about showing those other parents that you can pee further than they can.

It would also be interesting to capture these class signing threads and then do a compare say by the time they are juniors in college. I'd be willing to guess that at least 50% of these ladies won't still be on the roster. It's not an "Ohio thing" either - just watch softball on TV and you'll notice a lot of underclasswomen are playing starting roles. Most rosters are heavily first 2 year students, some juniors and very few seniors.

I think at some point the reality sets in and these girls realize this sport is great but it isn't going pay the bills. A lot of their focus turns to the degree and what the plan is for after they graduate. Which is another reason to have your young ladies concentrate on the academic money versus athletics. The school money will still be there even when the athletic light burns dim.

Roadrunners05 team plays a TOP schedule. They already played a tournament down in Owensboro , Kentucky back in January where the Mojo team which is ranked #1 country beat them 2-1. Also, they will be traveling to Crown Point, Indiana to play against some of best in the country in May and also in May they will be traveling to Gulfport, Mississippi to play the best in the South. There is over 40 teams in that tournament and they will also be traveling to Orlando, Florida in July to play. So this team does some traveling to play against the so called best in the nation. In my opinion this team is one of the best in the nation. Great coaches and players and parents committed to travel and play ball!!!

Come watch some 9 year olds play softball?

Gee, can I???????

Seriously, I wouldn't walk across the street to watch a 10u game that my kid wasn't playing in. I'm certainly not going to Mississippi to watch a mess like that.

I was the one who started this and I never imagined it would get taken this far. Just wanted some info on how good 10 under Mojo was. Thank you Becka as I heard it was a Roadrunner player subbing in as I didn't hear it was your Dd. Justin you are correct in saying that is definitely a national attention schedule Roadrunners will be playing. Mike_Dyer stop hating on 10 under kids.

Laser Nation, June 10th, Roadrunners can prove that they are the best (in the area) at least...7gg, single elimination.

Lol wait till Lasers Nation? Now that's funny stuff. My DD06 team is in that and we even have a chance to win cause of Td wanting money. I can remember when my oldest Dd played in the Lasers and this field in all age groups was crazy talented, and now they are taking 06 teams just to fill up the field. Roadrunners has nothing to prove there at all as they proved me and a lot others wrong at the Spano tourney. I will say this Roadrunners,Stingrays and Lasers Blue better have deep pitching when you go into a tourney playing that amount of games! Good luck to all 10 under teams this Spring/Summer!
