Or go far enough down the outfield lines and put a plate and rubber down there with a 6 X 8 screen behind the catcher area to stop pass balls when warming up the pitcher.

I personally don't like that option as outfielders, 3B and 2B hustling for a foul ball could run into that.

So dig a big moat to stop them.

Outside the fence WM 83.....LOL I didn't think anyone would think inside the fence for placement. I should have stated that I guess.

I should have figured you meant that. My bad.

I noticed you didn't say no to the moat.

You are welcome. Hope that link gave you some insight into the building of a field. I really would go to 210 in the corners and 225 in dead center... as I do see that happening with these new bats.

Come back to this thread on Monday and I'll see if I can't find that link for the temp fencing stuff,

www.linedrive.com is a great place to get bases. Cheapest I found and good bags as well. With spikes being used anymore... you need to go top quality materials or you'll be replacing bags left and right. Bags come in threes and then buy the safety first base separately and then you have a spare base always on hand as well.

The temp fences go for such a wide range of prices.. big difference matters who sells them... and this place had nice material and a great price as well. Save yourself some money on fencing and go with temp fencing. That was you can set the outfield fences at 200 for now and can always change them IF it has to be done the road.

I do see the bases going to 65 ft sooner than what people might think. They moved pitching rubber back to 43 to put hitting back in the game... now they have to put defense back into the game as well on the short game.

I find that.. I'll put the link on here.

I know all the dimensions say to measure a 60 ft radius from where the 46 Ft pitcher's Plate would be and that determines the cut of the infield. That makes a rather large infield and when it comes to working that size infield--it becomes big job. Those dimensions go back to men's slow pitch days when the bases were 60 ft and the pitcher's plate was at 46 ft. If the field is to be used for fast pitch only, then you can get away with taking a 55 Ft arc from where the 43 Ft pitcher's plate is. If the bases were to go to 65 ft, then you might have to use a 55 Ft arc and get there by using a sod cutter. If you use this smaller arc, you can save a tremendous amount of infield material not to mention time dragging and time working a wet infield.

And a timeout room for when a coach, parent or umpire needs it.

When starting from scratch, after you orient the field and decide on your material, you should consider your network of drain tile (as mentioned) and irrigation. The ability to have water on site is vital to the maintenance of the field. Besides sprinklers you should consider snap valves in foul territory behind the infields where hoses can be connected.

Putting in tile and irrigation after the fact is too difficult. Many times in a rush to play, these two very important elements are left out.

Just my opinion...

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here in a very long time, but after a year I thought nothing was going to happen. I was just told today that I need to get my field ideas together again. Good thing this site keeps the threads active!

LOL, I have thought about a dome, but I think I am having senior night in the gym where we have spent the vast majority of our time, and I am going to have the underclassmen escort each player and parent out onto the floor with an umbrella over their heads.
