hard to see if hands actually touch. But as Eagleone pointed out, best to take grip in glove, opposing coaches will learn pitches very fast as will hitters.

Are you 100% sure that they aren't touching?

Keep in mind...

- The hands may be in motion prior to and during the touch.

- You don't have to put the ball all the way inside the glove or actually lock your hands together any certain way.

- Any touch satisfies the "at least one second" requirement of the rule.

Because I sometimes like to argue, I disagree.

1.) A pitcher can use one particular grip on more than one type of pitch.

2.) Hitters usually don't have time to A - see the grip, B - identify the pitch, C - make adjustments before the ball arrives.

3.) Base coaches, while having the best view, don't have time to relay the information to the hitter.

(I once heard a pitching instructor say that they wore long sleeves when pitching because batters could tell what pitch was coming because of which muscles were tensing up on the forearm...)

So , while I'm sure there are people out there who say I'm wrong, I don't see this as much of an issue.

Watch Mike White of Oregon, he usually knows every pitch being thrown by the end of 1st inning & relays signals to his hitters. Every pitch has its own unique signature in way. Being able to hit the pitch is a different story.

I have heard that male fastpitch pitchers would wear long sleeve shirts to avoid tipping off their rise balls to batters, due to forearm muscles tensing during their grip.
