i thought HS softball practices/open gyms/lifting/conditioning have been going on since september? ;&
Go straight down route 21 south past Navarre. Go another 10-12 miles you'll run into a small town that lives (or lived) by that! :lmao:

Those that are so down on high school ball, why don't you take that negative energy and turn it into positive energy and do something good with it to turn your program around. I've coached high school sports for over 30 years, (football, baseball, softball and basketball). Nothing can compare to the awesome feeling of playing, competing and representing your school and their colors, (college as well) Memories made during those times far out last any AAU or Travel memory. Im sure the negative vibes you feel are also penetrating your sons and daughters conscience.

Who said I was being negitive, I work very close with our high school team and coach. I do count down till the end of the season because it is the start of our travel season.

I to dont understand the dislike some people have for high school ball, I like both but high school ball does make more memories and doesn't cost as much , they are with more of there friends, it seems like its the travel ball coaches that dislike it the most because they think there player gets all messed up with a different coach , If all you travel ball coaches think that you are so good why arent you coaching college ball, oh ya thats right you haven't been found yet.

If all you travel ball coaches think that you are so good why arent you coaching college ball,

Because many travel ball coaches do it because they LOVE it. High School coaches do it because, "Well I played two years of baseball in junior college, and I could use the extra money to supplement my income as gym teacher."

Travel coaches have good jobs in the real world, and, tired as they may be on weekends, they still find time to make a group of girls' lives better for no pay at all... They don't want to be discovered by colleges, because the pressure of coaching at that level is not worth it.

Here are the facts:

1) There are both good and bad travel and high school coaches ... though there's no doubt that at least some high school coaches are only doing it for the money, and some travel coaches are doing it only so their daughters can play where they want.
2) Travel coaches generally think they are better than high school coaches, and high school coaches generally think they are better than travel coaches.
3) The top travel teams play at a higher level than the top school teams, because their players are the best players from each of several school teams.
4) Generally speaking, there is something extra special about playing for one's school.
5) We travel coaches are anxious for the school season to end because that means our travel season can start!

I want to clarify any statements I have made. We are blessed to have a strong team and a fantastic coach who understands the game, and the girls. I am looking forward to the start of the season. Anything I have said to the contrary has been in regard of programs that aren't as fortunate as we are. I agree with coachjwb, there are good and bad in both worlds. The only difference is a parent and player have a little more control over where they play summer ball.

A wise person (school coach and travel) once told me school ball always trumps travel (at least from Feb 25 to June 1) Enjoy, be your kids cheerleader, supporter, no matter who she's playing for.

CUMom, I totally agree with the thought process, but the only reason that HS ball "trumps" travel ball at that point is because OHSAA mandates it. I would phrase it "School Ball has the upper hand over travel ball".

School ball in 4 days, DD is excited and so are we. Last year for DD until college and we are headed n right direction with our new coach.

schoolball trumps travel otherwise we won't travel to play schoolball later in college. I know it's different so don't post how college and high school is different.;&

One big difference I see between the two is:
As a summer team coach you do have a choice who you take (if they WANT to play with you). You can certainly not take a girl if it will be your 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] baseman. Allow her to go somewhere she may have more opportunities to play.

As a school coach you get to work with the girls enrolled. In some cases this means moving a summer second baseman to ss, 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] baseman to catcher. Or in my case teaching girls to pitch, that have never pitched.
You also @ HS have to teach and reinforce fundamental of the sport as a whole. Not just running, hitting, sliding, throwing, specific defense, ALL of the sport rules, safety, teamwork?and much more (EVERYTHING).

As a high school and travel softball coach, I CAN?T WAIT for the challenges of either season!
I look forward to making the experience an enriching, positive, rewarding, fun time for my girls?and sometimes their parents too! Boy does it go fast!

Good Luck to all of you this year regardless of the countdown you are using!
See you one the fields!
