Our coach was notified this morning for "entry" fee into the park itself, no registration fees for teams--No Charge for Players.

Look below...it says NO ENTRY FEE

Yes, I saw "NO ENTRY FEE." All that means is that teams don't have to pay "Entry Fee" or "Registration Fee" to play. There will be a Gate Fee into the park for all except Players.

Sudden Death Softball has always charged a gate and/or door fee for all tournaments, indoor or outdoor. This is common practice amonnst most every tournament. The flyer stated there was no:
Sudden Death Softball has a beautiful facility in which to schedule tournaments and games and we want to thank the City of Middletown, Ohio so we are offering this tournament at NO CHARGE!
Entry Fee $000.00

FREE ENTRY FEE
NO ENTRY FEE

All of the above meaning there is no cost for the tournament. I hope this explains everything. For us to offer this type tournament is unheard of. We won't even make enough to cover costs the way it is.

Gregg -

I understand the economic necessity of charging the spectator fees on occasion, but as a first-year travel softball family we don't have any background with SDS tournaments. So we didn't have any way of knowing that you "always" charge a gate fee. So for your future tourneys please just make that more clear earlier on.

On a related note, what is your cooler policy? Can we bring in drinks/food or must we buy everything there?

I just assumed (and we all know what happens when you assume) no entry fee meant no gate fees. I just to make sure my parents are aware ahead of time so they have some 1's to pay the entry fee. This and one other tournament are the only ones we have or plan to go to that have gate fees.

Doesn't matter though, we certainly aren't complaining!!! The registration is free and SDS ALWAYS puts together a great event, they walk the walk when they talk the talk about being in it for the girls!!!

I do agree SDS is doing a GREAT thing for the players with this tourney. But I agree with OUTCAST, I also thought it meant no admission fees, since it was repeated twice with different wording. Only place we've paid an "admission fee" at a Park this year was at Expressway. Was free everywhere else. Even at the Gene Harvey Memorial last weekend it was free admission and coolers were allowed to come and go through park, even though they had concession stands. But $5 a head on the weekend? Ouch. I do wish this was on the original Tourney Flyer, as I already told our team it was free admission. I'm hoping at least coaches and young children will be free admission and coolers will be allowed. My wife is bringing our 14 month old twins, and if it costs $15 for them to get in both weekend days, she'll turn around and go back home out of principle.

I'm curious about the age this applies to as well. We have a 6-year-old who really doesn't care anything about softball, other than to pester his sister when she's in the dugout! I'm guessing he's at the age where we'll need to pay, but we have no other choice. We're coming from a ways out of town and can't stand on principle - we are traveling as a family and can't leave him alone!

We are sorry for any confussion. There will be a gate fee at the tournament. Children 6 & under are free and yes, coolers are permitted. Although concessions will be availabe.

I know that teams/parents aren't too fond of gate/parking fee's but in reality, if you look at the costs of the events we host, the costs has to be offset somehow. Yes, inour past tournaments, there has been a gate fee.

It is not our intent to "underhand" anyone. Even with the gate fee and concessions, SDS is forking out alot of money for this event.

We appoligize for any inconvience and we hope to put on a great event for all. We'll see you all at the field

How does the gate fee work on Satuday - can you leave and reenter? We have an early game and a late game and will likely want to leave the park for a while.

Yes, you will get your hand stamped and you can leave and re-enter as much as you want.

No one thinks anyone is pulling a fast one, I just misinterpreted the 'No Entry Fee'. Like I said, no problem, I just want to make sure my parents aren't surprised, I myself rarely carry cash so I just wanted to clarify so I could let them know.

Again, SDS always puts on great events, and yes, at very good prices. They are a great organization and the Outcast organization will always go to their tournaments and support them in every way we can - except of course when we get on the field, then we go after them as hard as we can!!!)

I was at this park for your tournament and don't remember a gate fee. Maybe wrong, the others parents would remember. Can't say gate fees are common. The Wave doesn't charge in Greenville. OFC doesn't charge in Wilmington. Beavercreek, no charge. I sure would have made it clearer because now you are putting a bad taste in people's mouths which will make it harder to get them back next year.

When you say "so we are offering this tournament at NO CHARGE!" that does not say just no entry fee. It doesn't say no charge, just to the teams. It says this tournament, NO CHARGE.

Expressway, Pastime, Kettering Capital City, Hebron and the Jubilee in Zanesville all charge admission. SDS has attended or will attend all of these tournaments. When our tournaments aren't "FREE" the cost is usually $200-$250, far below the costs of other tournaments.

Can I bring the gate fee in pennies? :lmao:

Will you have walking taco's? Always makes people feel better about paying to get in when they can get a walking taco.

Ok, I do have a serious question. All walking tacos aside. haha. Will you have tourney t-shirts for purchase? I am a horrible father and have neglected to buy my DD a t-shirt at the last 2 events we went to.
