High School coaches:

We are still taking nominations for the Ohio team for the 3rd annual Ohio-West Virginia Senior All-Star Game at the University of Rio Grande in June. Nominations must come from a player's high school coach and the players must be 2008 grads. ?The three-game series will take place on Wednesday, June 11. ?

Please e-mail nominations to JoeA1010@aol.com before Thursday, Jan. 17. ?Include as much information on each girl as you would like, but at least name, position(s), league, district and state honors and key stats. ?
?
Ohio won all three games in each of the first two years. Last year's squad featured players who are now playing at various Division I schools around Ohio and beyond, as well as Division II, NAIA and Division III schools. ?
?
The Ohio team is chosen by Joe Abraham (Thomas Worthington), Angelo Forte (Hilliard Davidson) and Charles Tackett (Tipp City Tippecanoe), who are also the coaches. ?

Please feel free to forward this information to high school coaches who might not read the Huddle or OFC. ?

Hey Joe, Will you post the names of the girls that were selected once the process is completed?

Yes, we will post them as soon as the team is picked and the girls accept the invitations. As soon as we select the team (within the next two weeks) we will contact the girls and their coaches and will post the team as soon as we have it finalized.

Just curious....why take nominations now as opposed to maybe mid-May when the players' senior year performances could be considered?

Fair question. We do it now because it make it much, much easier to get organized. We discussed this issue when we started this a few years ago and we worried that waiting until the end of the high school season might cause problems in even putting the teams together since girls would then only have a couple of weeks notice and may have made other plans by that point.

If we waited until just a few weeks before the event and ran into any snags, there wouldn't be much time to do anything about them. It would also leave very little time for coaches to get us the nominations. Also, parents naturally like to take the day off to come down to Rio Grande to watch and choosing the team now gives them plenty of time to plan for that.

Basically it all comes down to the benefit of having the extra time to prepare outweighing the benefit of having the girls' senior stats. The all-Ohio teams don't seem to get announced until early June, so we wouldn't have time to wait on that announcement, either.

Note that the deadline for nominations is extended to Thursday, Jan. 17. I was mistakenly thinking the state coaches' clinic was this coming weekend, but it's the 18th-19th.

E-mail nominations to JoeA1010@aol.com using the criteria listed in the first post on this thread.
