Anyone think a new 12u team north of Dayton is a good idea? This would be for 10u moving up next year. There are currently no teams in northern Montgomery county in 10u division. There has to be talent in that area.

There is a chance we will be having tryouts for a team. I will be posting on here when it happens.

Might be a good idea. I think most girls in the area that are 10u travel out of town or have not even tried out for a team since there is no local traveling
10u team.

In north dayton, englewood little league is the place to be. We have the talent we just choose not to play much travel ball. We useually don't start much untill after 12U. We have two travel organizations that are up here in englewood area the englewood thunder (aka Northmont thunder thats where I got my name) and the MC Hammers with 12U teams. I think there is a 12U road warriors team from huber. My self personally would not like to see travel ball at 12U or earlier in this area. I think players just need the right coaches and they will be just as good. I also think slow pitch is still very much going in north dayton and that has some of are players. Travel Ball is taking away a lot from are league and making the play quality go down. Just think of Poland little league, I bet erin gabrial played there and most of her poland teamates till they were 12 or older and it didn't hurt them they grew up to win state. I know you probably didn't mean it like this but travell has taken away from little league becuase people always think they got to travel to get somewhere. This gets to me once and a while and it has struck a cord tonight lol. Sorry for the long post.

My daughters started out in slow pitch softball and I think that is the best for the kids. The frustration is when your kid has played since 5 and gets into 10u and there are kids that can't even catch a ball. Its frustrating for the kids and the parents too.

in 10U or what we call minors in little league it is very tough to watch some times. If you have the talent to go places it shows and you will get there. Where northmont HS got all there talent in pitching. Was that we had a great pitching coach in are area that taught are beginning girls how to pitch and that furthered them to the next level. I think if you have the commintment from the coaches to teach the girls better you will see a huge difference in the play for the whole league.

I guess not everyone gets lucky and gets the coaches that are committed or know the game well. And sometimes you get lucky and the coach is only in it for his/her daughter. We have so many parents living through their kids, I have seen that in a lot of sports and at different levels. Yes, it does seem like Northmont usually has a good high school team so they must do something right with training their kids!

Valley Storm 12U is doing well this year. We are a competitive team but haven't won that first tournament yet. We will be having tryouts in August. About half of this years team will move to 14U. The Valley Storm is located in Tipp City.

Our organization started out as a slow pitch team and up until recently on here I have heard nothing but negative comments about what we did in slow pitch. Once Brittany Duncan's dad spoke up for slow pitch, others seemed to listen a little bit and realized that maybe it isn't such a bad thing.

What our organization has done, too, is bring in college aged players to coach our teams. It takes the moms and dads out of the equation and allows players to play based on an unbiased opinion. 8 of the girls on our 16U roster are Northmont girls, and only two of those played at Englewood Little League, those 2 being pitchers. All of the others were slow pitch players. If she likes slow pitch, play it until she gets to junior high, and then switch to fast ptich. All of the girls that played slow pitch for us from our school are still playing with the HS fastpitch team and doing great.

Here is our website if you'd like a closer look:

My advice, go to a few tryouts and get a feel for what you like. Have your daughter go to as many tryouts as you like. Most of the girls I know that play HS ball have been involved in some type of travel ball since they were around 10 or so. The beauty of playing travel ball is it does get your daughter the chance to play with girls that are a little more advanced. It also helps develop their game as the competition is usually a lot tougher than a recreation league.

Find what your comfortable with.

She already plays fastpitch and has been on a travel team for 2 years, but we have a long drive for practice. She is a pitcher and I think if you want to pitch you have to play fastpitch. In my opinion, rec would not be appropriate either, I've seen the pitching in rec. It would be nice to have a team close that's competitive and maybe she would play with some girls from her school too!

I have given this considerable thought the last two years. There are many small tryouts in the area but many of those teams don't go forward after the dismal turnout they get. It would be great if you had a program like Englewood does where most of the girls continue to be challenged. I'm one town over and I get to see how they do things and they do a great job. However if you don't have that there is room North of Dayton but you have to do a GREAT job of advertising for your tryouts or you may not get what you are looking for, especially for a new team.

Seems to be a lot of talent in Brookville, TCN, Englewood and I'm guessing Vandalia, New Lebanon, west Milton, and other surrounding areas should have talent too. Everyone in those areas have to travel 30min or longer for 10u teams. Need to get something going in the area!

I am still working on some details and should know more tomorrow as one of the girls I asked about coaching is letting me know tomorrow.
I will contact you when I hear from her.
