99, the "cow tipping finals" are usually held the during ******** week. You see it's to close to rival week for me to even mention their name! Coach2, good luck with your improvements-keep us posted.

Catcher99Dad, I can understand your concern about wooden platforms in the batters box. Never saw that before, and didn't last summer. Maybe they removed them -- I would certainly think so. The dirt on the fields we played on was excellent. They have over 30 fields at Berliner, so for sure, we didn't see them all, onlya few.

As far as traveling far away to play at a National, maybe I've just been doing this too long...close to home sounds good to me. We've been to Chattanooga, St Louis, Moline, Charlotte, and far and wide out of state for other tournaments.

The worst problem that I think we've run into is heat -- especially last year at Charlotte/Rock Hill where it was over 100 for three straight days, and even at night it was in the 90's and extemely humid. I think that's a huge disadvantage to players and families from the north who aren't used to it. My wife and younger daugther didn't even go to some of the games last year because of the heat. Even at St Louis it was "only" in the high 80's, but very high humidity. So, give me a northern national anytime.

Hotel prices....yeah, guess you're going to get that no matter what national you go to. I don't think hotel prices would be cheaper than Columbus though. They sure weren't at Rock Hill.

As far as Beekman Fields....man those fields are beautiful! But...no way could they handle a National there, especially with several age groups, nor do I think OSU would want one there. They are very, very particular about the care of those fields.

Purple Jack you are corect about Beekman. ?After our first year there we were approached by no less that 3 Associations about hosting either their states or Nationals there. ?When we discussed it with OSU they were against it - totally. ?I know of a couple other groups that have approached OSU about holding other tourneys there and they were against that as well - they call us every time. ?Those fields get TONS of play, and they have one of the best Directors of Facilities in the entire NCAA at OSU. ?He is not interested in having a great site for National Youth Tournys. ?He wants to have the BEST site for National Sporting events. ?He hosts the Special Olympics, National Rugby Championships, Club Soccer Championships, etc. ?He is happy with having Big League Baseball (if they are still there) and our event. ?

Now if NSA wanted to do the 18u's there by themselves...who knows. ?Remember we are having the finals of our 18's and 16's on OSU's field this year so nothing is impossible. ?

(edited to spell "or" correctly!!)

Why would OSU be interested in hosting Club Soccer national championships and not Travel Softball national championships? Is a Marxist in charge there?

Oh wait, it's a college campus, there probably is a Marxist in charge.

Joe, the old man meant club as in collegiate club soccer, not youth club soccer. ?

The Ohio State "Leadbelly Ultimate Frisbee Club" (which my friend is the former president of) also holds a rather large collegiate club ultimate frisbee tournament at Beekman. ?Now those guys are commies, they are soccer players crossed with hackie-sackers. ;)

joe, there is a Marxist running OSU...she's trying to stop football tailgate activities. I recently heard that she asked the Holiday Inn on Lane to stop Hineygate...they told her to step off.

Good for the Holiday Inn. Glad they didn't cave to her nonsense.

The 16-U Buckeye Heat (Abraham) qualified this fall and will be at the NSA WS in Columbus.

bcatfan - I am happy to see that others feel the same way about that "soandso" running TOSU. I know it is for another thread, but can't we do something about her???!!!

Would love to see a big turn out of Ohio teams this year - even if the NSA is only a vacation close to home. Let's keep the big hardware here!

A bit of trivia regarding Lou Berliner Park...

There are actually 31 fields at this site, despite what you might see on a map of the park. While the fields are individually numbered, and the last field is numbered "32", diamond #3 was removed in the early 1980's to make way for the installation of batting cages near the front of the park.

Rather than renumber all of the existing fields, the same numbering sequence was kept, with the number "3" being skipped.

Yes bretman, it's more of a thrill to hit one deep down the left field line on dia #1 putting it up on the batting cages. Dia #3 was an undersized diamond anyway!

Bink. Dou you know if any of the laser teams will go to the nsa nationals or are they strictly an asa team?

Just observations of the Lasers in the past. They have seldom been strictly ASA, NSA, or any other organization. It seemed that last year they MAY have had more teams head for ASA nationals, then previous years, but that is only how it appeared to me. I would expect some of the Lasers teams will be at NSA.

I always thought lasers mindset was that winning nsa is like "kissing your sister".

Even though some Laser folks may look at NSA nationals as a softball vacation I would expect some of the teams to participate if for no other reason than a tune up for the ASA nationals the following week. Columbus in mid summer, kind of like the Outer Banks only flat with no sand and no ocean, but we got heat. One out of four aint all bad.

By the way if you were from west virginia that whole "kissing your sister" thing may be an accepted practice but here in ohio we try and stick with the second cousin rule as a minimum. ;D

Laser parents that I have had an opportunity to meet, have indicated to me that each team pretty much sets their own agenda, what nationals, how late in the season to play (ASA nationals often coincide with the start of high school volleyball and other fall sports).
