I was told tonight that NSA and USSSA had merged to form one sanctioning body under the USSSA banner. Does any one know if this is true?

Last Oct/Nov, several Eastern states NSA directors switched over to USSSA, including Maryland, PA, so that may be it. While I am not a business expert, NSA is a for profit corporation while USSSA is a non Profit so it would be a strange merger--but then stranger things have happened.

Some of it might be that NSA now is using a point system to qualify like USSSA.
