Springfield coach is not the best of motivators- we will see.

My DD would love to play for him. Not to many coaches have the passion and fire he does.

I can assure the Springfield fans, A.W. is well aware of the mood the Blue Devils are in. I spoke with Heat on Friday before the B.G. game and expressed how I was glad we weren't playing Springfield after the loss to Southview,....Well I don't think Springfield could come to our house any more motivated than they will on Monday and in the Sectional Final on Tuesday. Fortunately for us,..Southview has cancelled with us on Wednesday due to their first sectional game. That in no way deminishes the effort we need to put forth on Monday and Tuesday against a very good Springfield team.

tried to resist jumping in on discussions [will probably regret it ::) ] but here goes: being a h.s. coach for 12 years, I have come to the realization that "when we win the kids did great, when we lose I screwed up" and if you don't have thick skin, you won't last long. The recent knocks on B.G. coach, and now the "springfield coach isn't a great motivator" has struck a nerve. I don't think most people realize that a good h.s. coach puts in a year round effort, and it ain't for the pay! But that isn't my main point here, it's very different "motivating" and coaching h.s. then summer ball [I do both for the past 12 years also. In H.S. you are together 6 days a week usually, and it's far different than playing 8 games on a weekend. A poster here who I high respect, told me recently, they never realized the PRESSURE of Varsity till there daughter started playing it this year, and this player is not only a very good young player, but a seasoned summer travel player. There is unbelievable pressure on Varsity programs, your scores on in the paper every day, so the kids and coach has to face constant explanations and questions. Also, generally, not always but generally, AD's don't want a bunch of grief from parents [imagine that!] about non-revenue producing Female sports [now my AD is the BEST i've ever had, and one reason why I wanted the position] So coaches are under pressure from many different angles. The B.G. coach is a young coach, and at least deserves patience to "grow" into the position. Coach G not being a motivator, first i've heard that, and i'm not sure how you quantify that, but I highly respect his program, his ability, the feeder program he's developed, and how difficult it must be not watching your daughter playing at a local college program. His team is YOUNG, and very talented, the best hitting squad i've seen this season. Sorry for the rant, I know neither coach needs defending, but this pressure thing in high school is often over looked, and underestimated the time and commitment it takes. Back to your regular scheduled program ;D

I have to agree 100 per cent maumee,......The amount of time, thought, and effort put into my dd's H.S. program by her coaches is amazing. The amount of time actually spent with the girls at conditioning, practices, and games is probably about 15 to 20 per cent of the job. I'm at the bottom end of the staff and I can tell any of you out there even I have a lot of time invested. Somebody quipped earlier that it boiled down to probably $5 an hour,....I would estimate it cost a coach $5 an hour before he or she realized a profit of $5 an hour. Mark Hamann, Mickey Arquette, and Phil Kurfis at A.W. put so much of themselves into that program. They discuss all aspects of the game and personnel constantly as it relates to the team they field and the opponents they play. I can't even begin to tell you all that's involved,...it's one of those deals you have to experience to understand it.

You hit the nail on the head...I am not even offically on the staff at my DD`s HS But I believe since late November I have spent everyday doing something with the players. I know there are ALOT of people out there thatdo not understand what it takes to be a HC there is more than giving signs at 3rd base ...And at the Varsity level you are not just a Head Coach you are the leader of a program...JMO

I would be curious as to see how strategy comes into play here (on the coach's part).

That is what I am thinking too softballcat, I am alos curious to see how they play this.

It should be interesting. Aw has:

Monday- Springfield - It is calling for rain
Tuesday- Springfield
Wednesday- Southview

I guess they have to pick their poision. ?Whats important the NLL or States? According to the preseason article Gill said they were gunning for states. Both back ups have had their troubles on the mound this year aginst the good teams or not so good teams. However both may be capleable of pulling one out. The suspence is just killing me.

I just do not feel Kurfis will be able to do all three
Springfield may be like a wounded animal since their loss to BG. ?Springfield coach is not the best of motivators- we will see.[/quote]

I can honestly say that this person DOES NOT speak for a majority of the team. Is the Springfield coach a rah rah guy? No. But that doesn't mean he isn't a motivator. I wish all of the girls and parents of that team had the passion and loyalty he does. I believe he is second to none when it comes to game preparation. He thinks about the game non-stop. He gives his heart and soul to this program. He takes away from his family for this team. He misses his daughters college games and his sons HS baseball games for these girls and program. If that doesn't say MOTIVATION, then nothing does. I for one am glad that he coaches my dd. I'm sure that I will be called a suck up, brown noser, or kiss a**, that's fine I could care less. I know at the end of the day my dd is going to not only be a better player for playing for him, but a better person.

As for being ready after a very difficult loss, I have no doubt that they will be ready and hungry. As Maumeesoftball said this team is young, and a good friend of mine pm'd me on Friday night and put things into perspective.(Thanks UJ :)) Although this loss comes at a bad time, it could help the girls focus and could make a difference in the state tournament.

Heat,...I think you have a flip-flopper in camp. ;D One post Icantcatchacold is all for Springfield, and when something goes off schedule, they take a shot at the team or coach. A couple of weeks ago it was all about how Springfield had more offense than Perrysburg and then a post later about how Springfield doesn't have enough horses. I'm a thinking somebody needs to get on board and stay positive and supportive. ;)

One thing we must all remember through the ups and downs is that we are dealing with TEENAGE girls....a group of girls that have to see eachother 6 days a week. I don't care how well they get along, play together, whatever.....they all have social lives, boy problems, and well....PMS. Some people can criticize coaches all they want, but lets just not forget what we're dealing with here. ;) ::)
