We have 16-18 girls. Not enough for a JV.
In the past they have had JV games right after the Varsity game. They would put the JV girls on the field and finish filling in with varsity players. (not in their varsity position)
My question is : Is there a limit on innings played? Could somebody call in with 5 games to go and tell you that 4 of your varsity players are over their limit of innings ?

I would have to look up the actual wording, but it has to do with games not inning.
27 games on 23 dates.

How many Varsity games are scheduled? with 16-18 for both squads it would be likely players are going over 27 games.

You got it right! Regular Season Games Permitted - Maximum of 27 games in 23 playing dates. Doubleheaders must be played on non-school days or days when there is no school the following day.

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

As presented at the OHSAA State Rules Interpretation meeting, I took this to mean that individual teams can schedule 27 games, not that individual players can only participate in 27 games.

Your varsity team can schedule 27 games and your JV team can schedule 27 games. Individual players can go back-and-forth between the two games as much as the coaches want them to.

But have to admit- I was there because I had to be there for the playing rules portion of the presentation. The umpires don't really pay attention to the coaching and administrative stuff! :)

That doesn't seem possible since in the other high school sports there are restrictions as to how much JV and Varsity time an athlete can play.

Bretman ... don't believe that's correct unless something has changed in the last 2 years since I coached high school. Other earlier posts were correct ... teams can play a max of 27 regular season games (i.e,. including state tournaments) over a maximum of 23 dates ... so, in other words, in order to get in 27 games, you have to play 4 doubleheaders on the weekends. My understanding is that the 23 and 27 also apply to the number of dates and games a girl is allowed to play over the course of the regular season, and varsity, JV and freshman games all count.
