Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Updates

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

What a great finish to the tournament. ?I wasn't able to see the games on Saturday, but made it to the last few innings of the semi-final (Sapphires and MV Express) and the final in the 14U.

No one cared about the trophy after the teams talked the ump into playing just one more inning before darkness overtook the fields. ?

After t-shirts were passed out (with the exception of 5 to be supplied later -- thanks TD!), the two teams separated and walked away from each other . . . leaving the trophy sitting behind on home plate. ?[Proving once again that it's all about the t-shirts]

Good way to end a tie game at the end of a fall ball tourney . ?Better than flipping a coin or rolling a ball to second base.

Congratulations Sapphires and Heart of Ohio Force -- you made a lot of parents and coaches proud!

Sapphires -- Welcome to the winner's circle -- you will be there a lot this year!

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

is there a website that post all the pool scores and elimination brackets???

how many players on the sapphires 14u are from the old lasers orange and silver? look to be a good squad for this year.

is the laser red 14u a new team this year - or do they have girls from orange and silver (if you combine silver and orange do you get red or sapphire)???

how did the buckeye heat allen and cincy doom 92 do this weekend (teams look good on paper)??

Wow, great stories of sportsmanship from the 14u, and the others I am sure. In the end, and the long term big picture, that is worth more than winning anyways. Doing both though, ... priceless.

Congrats to the Force and the "never say die attitude", way to battle back! A very nice team that I remember as playing tough over the past few years.

Way to go young Sapphires, good job getting out of the gates and having some early success together as a team. Remember, a two year commitment and goal.

Looking forward to spring! ..... which starts in January, in the Spano, LOL.

Sapphires have five players from last year's Silver team and five players from last year's Sapphires. None from Orange. ?What do you get when you mix some silver with sapphire -- a beautiful gem in a platinum setting!! ;D

Lasers Red have six players from last year's Silver and one from the Silver from the year before. ?I don't know the make-up of the rest of the team, but I know that they will be a Laser team to contend with this coming year.

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

next tourney, each girl should have a 2-ply jersey. on the front-->where they are playing this year (or maybe where they WANT to play by the end of the season (and don't start yipin about that, people)
on the back--> where they played last year
this really would help all the "jump shippers" figure out where is where and who is who (coincidentally, back when i was "delcruz" in the old yahoo chat rooms, people who wanted scully and mulder to "hook up" were called "shippers" ?don't know why that was relavent, just wanted to REALLY hijack a thread the correct way)
?::) ::) ;)

on an earlier thread,.....yeah, that kansas, er montana kid from the doom 14 didn't get to "wear" us out with her bat, but the infamous homer she ripped into I-71 (or into lancaster depending on what field she was on) left an impression..wished i could have seen it...

in other news...
there was some competition all around from what i saw during my fits of heat exhaustion, but I'm curious to hear some talk from the 12 and 14 coaches on how they felt the weekend went...
playing a fall tourney with a new team has it's advantages and disadvantages, like playing new positions and what-not...did the teams whose kids stuck together more successful than the teams that had, say, 5 or more new members on the team..why i'm not asking the 16's is that by that time, most girls can play any position and are smart enough to play a new spot without their game and mind crumbling like a cookie...as for 12's and 14's this seems to be a different issue...by the summer, they are well trained and versed on their fielding responsibilities, but in the fall? ?maybe not..

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

What was really strange was seeing the "dress" uniform I spent a lot of time trying to keep clean all last year on someone else's DD. ? ?Last time my DD was in it was in the heat and dust of Sacramento. ;)

? ? "Wait ... that's my DD up to bat -- Oh, no it's not, she doesn't play on that team anymore." ? ;D

Statman- I can't answer your question from a coach's perspective, but from a mom's viewpoint any team that has that many players on the team that haven't played together before will have some "bugs" to work out. ?But, my prediction is that Lasers Red and Sapphires will both be talked about next year. ?Both teams have some great, hard-working girls.

Oh, and BTW, I was never a "shipper."

When Jeff and I are in Canada fishing... we have been known to be "sippers" but that's that duty free Crown Royal Canadian Blended. - hard to go wrong there

Jeff was probably a "tipper" - cows in his youth - I know he's a "dipper"

don't think we fall into the "shipper" catagory

Statman
Rumblings are over. ?New seasons, new teams, life goes on.
Both teams should be fun to watch and it was great to see friends at the ball park.

You know the old song -- Make new friends, but keep the old. ?Some are Silver and others are . . . ?Sapphire and Red?

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

Well, I am not a 12u coach, but a 12u mom. I really enjoyed the tournament. I wasn't able to be there on Saturday, due to work. But I did sneak down during my lunch and watch a little bit of the game. My DD played her first games with the 12u Stingrays. The Stingrays lost to the 12u Doom in the finals, but it was a great game. There were a few mistakes, but considering they only had 1 team practice, I thought that the weekend went very well. The only thing I can complain about was the heat. I wasn't counting on that in October. And, as a bonus, we got some free entertainment from the church next to the diamond. They were having a party, so we heard their music, bingo game, and they also were having a watermelon seed spitting contest.
Anyway, nice tournament, and I am really excited for next spring!

David and the Classics Organization ran a very good tournament! The fields were in excellent condition, were actually softball fields (200ft fences) and were re-lined after every game. Concessions were very reasonably priced as well. Overall the umpires were good too; in fact, in our semi-final game against the Ohio Freeze, we had the best umpires we have had in years--they were awesome!! GREAT crew. The competition was top caliber and the girls had a great time.

Other than about the heat, the only complaints I heard were the usual grumblings about bad calls. It's just not softball if someone's not unhappy about some officiating, am I right?

In 14U pool play, Stingrays vs. Doom, Montana Wear, of the Doom, hit one OUT OF THE PARK :) against us.

Congratulations Montana, it was an awesome hit.

Stingrays held on to win 6-5.
Stingrays over Buckeye Heat 93, 3-2 in elimination.
Stingrays fall to MVXpress 4-1 to bow out.

Looks like she can hit too, saw her throwing last month in cinci and she looked great in the circle. Did she pitch in this game also ? MD

The Miami Valley Xpress 14U team would like to thank David and the entire Classics organization for running an outstanding tournament. ?From accomodating our schedule needs to the field conditions to the umpire crews, it was First Class all the way. ?Our congratulations to the Sapphires for their excellent game against us in the semi-final that went to an ITB.

We have played in this tournament three consecutive years and have enjoyed each one.

Re: Ohio Classics Fall Qualifier - Scores and Upda

U14 Vipers had a good time...our second year attending but our first year with three of our four age groups going.......we love the competition and we use the tourney as a good indicator of our strengths and weaknesses and what area's need work during the winter months. Doubt there are any better teams in Ohio than attended this one...if there are...can't wait to see them play.
We didn't get to watch many games other than the ones we were in but the four we played were teams to emulate for sure....Lasers as always a great team....Force was very classy and played flawlessly....good sticks top to bottom.....Buckeye Heat as always tough and play hard to the last out.....and the Phoenix.....much improved over last year. we did get to watch the Sapphires play a game...solid team..gonna be tough to beat...definite A game required.....hope we get to play all of them again....we had fun....big thanks to the Classics!

Manitou,

Ms. Montana pitched 2 innings against us. Montana and the rest of the Doom girls are great young ladies and competitors.

Thanx - the Ohio Classics have the best parents, that understand hard work and that quality tournament are more than about money. They worked very hard. all the props go to them! (especially my wife - more commonly known as "the coaches widow") See you all next spring!
