Ohio Sports Park

Ouch! That may be a problem with some tournament, hard to get someone to commit to a park that may not be in operation.

I am not sure if anyone except the Lady Orioles(sp?) and maybe NCS were hosting a tournament there this year.

The way the article reads, it sounds as if the current owner fails to secure new financing, then the court will appoint another party to (hopefully) run the park.

sunday beer leagues make money of course, but in an indirect way travel tournament crowds do wonders for hotels, restaurants etc. in the surrounding town (this case.....n.ridgeville). why not just go back to the old complex until things get straightened out.

would be a shame if the chamber of commerce let's the travel ball crowd dry up and find somewhere else to play.

the lights interfering with the drive in theater guy is a sham. last i checked drive-in movie theaters weren't a viable business plan anyway right?..... if the guy is doing ok great, hats off to him but this park serves a larger purpose. the place has tons of potential.

I like the old park MUCH better than the new. I think they used it before it was ready and made bad experiences for alot of people.

Agreed Klump. It could have been a really nice place, but the owner went off half cocked, with what appeared to be really poor, or absolutely no planning whatsoever. He over extended himself from the jump and tried to generate top dollar revenue in a place that was less than half finished. I think this is the same guy that owned softball world, which in my playing days was not my favorite place to play either. Way too commercial and in no way family friendly. Too bad, what a waste.

I was not impressed when we played there last year and the incomplete nature of the place definitely gave the impression that they ran out of money before it was finished. I guess this shows that was the case...

Whatever happened to the 200 to 250 dollar tourneys anyways?

They could not afford the porta johns for only 250 per team, so this tournament plan had to file bankruptcy. Ahead of the parks plan to do so.

I'm pretty sure this park is in recievership and done. We won the 14U "Nail Bitter" against Elyria last year (yahoo, go Lake Erie Waves) in one of the best 14U finals I have ever seen. I have to say that for an incomplete park it wasn't that bad. However when you put ASA tounaments in a bag with corporate america and shake them up, it's a recipe for desaster. If all would have been said and done, no team would have been able to bring coolers and or their own drinks into the park. You would have had to buy them from the concession stand. They let coolers in last year because they didn't have their concession stands ready in time.

It's not in receivership yet, but that's the next step. I think the owner has until sometime this month to come up with the extra cash to satisfy his creditors.

Thats what the old softball world was like. No coolers and "mandatory" concessions. That turned the parking lot into a huge drunk party for the bar leagues, as well as the actual bar that was in the park really made for a non-family type atmosphere that OSP was on its way to emmulate. OSP was doomed from the start with a horrible buisness plan and poor research. The preverbial foot is in the grave and the other on a bannana peel now.
