I totally am in agreement with Len. This is numerous kids from multiple schools taking individual instruction in a group environment. No way this should be a violation!!

Howard
Does not line them up and practice infield it is all skills and technique. so to me it sounds like it is ok. He coaches them more 1 on 1 as they field the ball

have the girls register as jane doe, suzi doe, etc etc . If the horses arses at OHSAA say it's a violation they will have no way of knowing who to punish. (except the travel team sponsoring it) maybe that was a bad idea.

I agree with the travel ball season starting in may for all ages. let the ohsaa have it. maybe they can start a slowpitch league. When more gold teams start popping up maybe we will move in that direction. sad really . but until they show desire to actually help the atheletes some pushing back should occur. MD

Looks like you are ok, from reading the response. Plus now all you need is plenty of water, because Howard will work them. Take plenty of notes, his DVD's do not due him justice.

the jane doe suggestion is the best answer.:lmao: if ohsaa shows up tell them its a private function and its $500 to get in.

It seems to me that many travel ball coaches have a problem with abiding by the rules. Why would ANYONE schedule an event such as this during high school softball season? There are OHSAA rules for a reason.. it allows the hs coaches to coach during their time and then in return allows the travel coach to coach for a much longer period during the summer and fall and even into winter.. How many of you who had an opinion regarding this would like it if the high school coach told all his players that he was running a clinic during your world tournaments which I believe are in the fall , AFTER the no contact by high school coaches occurs? The rules are in black and white, not gray .. stop trying to change them to benefit you. my personal favorites are the coaches who coach both high school and travel ball.. pretty positive they are breaking all the rules and who suffers for their selfishness.. the players do...if there is any question regarding eligibility or reprimand then my daughter will NOT be attending this event.

No scrimmages for me, several of them have been transitioned to the capable hands of OHSAA sanctioned middle school teams. Just kidding, I am glad they get a chance to represent their schools.

I keep tabs on them, receiving email updates and trying to go watch them when my DD isn't playing. I never get too worried though, they all have knowledgeable softball support systems around them (dads, swing coaches, pitching coaches, etc...). They were all good players before I got them, I just try and put them in positions where they can shine.

Lets teach our children loyalty, hard work, dedication, teamwork, pride in your schools, discipline,HONOR- HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS!!!

That team is better "I quit, I'm going to play for them."
Hey, your to good to play on that team come play for us. Some Travel Ball teams and coaches think they are in the "pros" remember you are dealing with CHILDREN and teaching life. Softball is a game for LEARNING.

I don't see any OHSAA rules broken here. I have had Howard in many times and know exactly what happens at his clinics. Literally everything he teaches are individual skills.

Meanwhile, I just got done two weeks ago watching an 18-U tournament here in Washington, a month before the end of the high school season. The high schools typically don't play on the weekends and no rule keeps players from playing or practicing with their ASA teams, so practices and the occasional tournament are a regular occurrence here during the high school season.

So who is now telling you that you can't hold this clinic?? Where is it being held?? Do you have any affiliation with a HS program?? How many HS girls would be involved?? The fact that it is travel ball and not a HS team really has no bearing if it is a clinic.

It seems you are receiving some wrong info because athletes are allowed to receive instruction at anytime of the year. The relevance is on who is giving the instruction and at what time of the year it is being given. One other thing, until a HS or middle school team has there 1st scrimmage or game they are allowed to continue practicing with their travel team and could even play games. I would think you would be OK, and unless it came from Roxanne Prices at OHSAA, I wouldn't hold much truth in it.

You can send me a PM if you rather not answer some of these questions in public.

Ain't that the TRUTH!;&

Oh, one thing I saw in the thread I wanted to respond to... There seems to be a misperception among some that the OHSAA has jurisdiction over travel teams. This is incorrect. The OHSAA has jurisdiction over high school participants, but has no right to do anything to a travel team or organization. The OHSAA is merely an organization that secondary schools formed and, thus, it only has power over those schools and their students.

Similarly, any travel team, or the ASA, could conceivably make up their own rules keeping high school players from receiving any instruction from any school coach outside of the school season. While they can hold individual players to that rule, they can't do anything to the schools themselves or the school teams.

If you read from the original post, this clinic is for the girls. These travel coaches are trying to get the best out of the girls regardless of the travel ball or high school. The original post did not state only for this travel team, they only sponsored. Sounds like to me you have a problem with travel teams in MHO.
