OHSAA Violations

It doesn't take much to understand most of the OHSAA rules, particularly the rules involved in these 2 violations. What were they thinking???

Cleveland Heights Beaumont School's varsity softball team participated in an out-of-state tournament on March 25 and 26, which violates the Softball Sports Regulation for starting date of the season (March 28). In accordance with Bylaw 11-2-1, Penalties, the OHSAA has ruled that the school is not eligible for the 2011 OHSAA tournament series in softball.

Amanda-Clearcreek's High School junior varsity softball team scrimmaged its Middle School softball team, which is a violation of General Sports Regulation 33.3 ("7th and 8th grade students may not practice with, participate on the same team or compete against 9th through 12th grade students"). In accordance with Bylaw 11-2-1, Penalties, the OHSAA has fined the school district $500.

They either thought they would get away with it.......or they never read the OHSAA rules.

It was really slow starting this last weekend. I thought it might be on my end but other websites were working fine.

Just a minor misunderstanding, don't really think they were trying to pull a quick one...

The Blue Streaks played what administrators believed were scrimmages during a tournament in Kentucky on March 25-27. The first day Ohio high school softball teams could begin playing games was March 28.

However, the team broke an Ohio High School Athletic Association general sports regulation that states money cannot be charged for inclusion in a scrimmage.

"It's my fault," said Beaumont Athletic Director Lori Longo. "When we paid to enter the tournament, those games became regular-season games. I didn't realize we broke a [rule] and I apologize."

OHSAA Commissioner Roxanne Price informed the school Sunday that its softball team was ineligible for the sectional tournament.

OHSAA rules clearly state that you cannot play scrimmages out of state during any time period. So I don't see how they misinterpreted that rule.

Sorry you are wrong...

Under General Softball Regulations
2) Out-of-State Travel
A softball team may travel out of state to compete in contest scrimmages, previews and
games in states or provinces in Canada that are contiguous to Ohio regardless of distance
to travel. The states include Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The province includes Ontario. Additionally, a softball team may travel out of state one
time per sport per interscholastic season to compete in states or provinces in Canada that
are not contiguous to Ohio provided there is no loss of school time.
