Pitching and Pitchers Discussion One for the pros? Pitchers glove size?

14u Daughter pitchs but has small hands and fingers. She prefers a 11.5 inch glove, but it seems to me that the larger glove would help defending off those rockets coming back at her, and on the other hand I'm concerned that the larger glove may throw off her balance and mechanics. I haven't seen anything on this before so lets hear it.

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about glove sizes. I don't consider myself a pro but I usually recommend a 11.75 to 12.25 inch glove for 3B/P. If she plays 2B/SS when not pitching, then the 11.5 inch glove is fine. If she plays OF then maybe try a 12.25 inch glove. However, it really just depends on what your DD is comfortable with.

A big glove on a small hand is far more dangerous than a small glove on a small hand. Think about it. The hand is what is actually doing the defending. If weighted by an unweildy glove, its reaction time would slow. Stick with the glove that fits, then tell your daughter to keep the ball away from the middle of the plate.

My DD was a small pitcher to, we used the lightest glove we could find for her when she was pitching. Normally used a small mitt she could control. This is just what we did, it was right for her, maybe not for everybody though :D

Have to agree with thebetterhitter here. Small, light glove. Most important: Avoid the belt-high down the middle pitches!!! Those are usually the ones that come straight back at her! Young pitcher = low pitches, work the corners.
