A growing trend is organizations and teams doing tryouts for next season before this season is over. This not only demoralizes current teams, it teaches kid ultimentaly a commitment is only good if it suits their current desires. This message falls MOSTLY on deaf ears, but some people figure it out.

Ask your self what what is the motive by some to partake in this behavior that doesn't teach our youth ethical life lessons. Why not teach them the proper time to try something is after they fulfilled their commitment first

Right over here!
Not so sure there are any actual tryouts per say. Their are a ton of fill in requests posted. I think what you see is everyone trying to get to the open market first, not actual tryouts. There are however some posts listing confidential try outs, which would be suspect.

The bigger issue is the backroom deals being made prior to tryouts starting. There is less and less actual tryouts going on. Seems like teams form for next season prior to the one they are in ending. What is more disturbing is when payers leave with tournaments still left to play. I get it everyone has to make decisions on what's best for them. Here is a novel idea in travel ball. Think about others and what impact your actions have on the team. When parents get loud, whether a bad call or at other parents, think about how others perceive that or worse how your kids perceive you. This sport will always be about the team first and not one player. I wish some of the folks who cause these distractions would have picked up tennis or golf, instead.

Well said. But, I just saw a team post that their final tryout is next week, so it's not just pickups. Don't know if that's a trend or an anomaly.

Final tryouts in early July? Team must have not been very good and packed it in way early...

Its all the same crap that no one wants to point out.....I am not afraid ....

Here is the scenario ....... Our team sucks we want to find the next best thing (hurry cause someone else might get them) ....so lets get out there and try and grab up anyone who is upset with there team!! (Hurry cause someone else might get them) Plus lets go get the ones who think the grass is greener and well get them too!
... or the ones that are moving up and want to find "something better" .... n
Once again its all the illusion of "finding a better player for our team for next year and getting to those players before everyone else!! Maybe if you just worked on the team you have they could get better and be that better team next year!! Or you could just move players up in your own organization
OR you could just hold them like you always do ....knowing that your org. is one of the better ones out there and they will come... Now that s crazy talk!! lol ;)
CHAMPIONS ARE MADE IN THE OFF SEASON!!

REMEMBER....The grass is not always greener..... Play time can not be promised ....
AND LASTLEY..... It doesn't matter where you go to play your tourneys for coaches to come find you!!
If you are a good player they will come watch you!!!

FACT: At 18u we had D-1 coaches and other coaches coming to Beavercreek tourney to come watch our players play (fact was we basically played around the Ohio/Indy/KY area that year)
YES those players did get offers and signed ....
So go to camps, get noticed and find the right travel team for you!!!
Guess what the good travel teams will take you no matter when you come ....IF you are that good!!
So find the right team don't be in a rush.....
The right team is out there for everyone you just need to R_E_L_A_X and find it!
Good Luck to All!!

There are less and less true tryouts, but they do still happen more than many people realize whose kids are playing at a high level already. While I haven't heard a lot about players actually leaving their teams before the season is over, its even worse when they don't but they and their parents talk about how they are going to. It is demoralizing to a team as the OP says. I couldn't agree more with their post.

Well said SOFTBALLS14! Just told tonight another good team in our area is doing tryouts, disappointing. Had one of my kids contacted by another entity and she told them "I'm still playing" amazing kids can do what adults can't. Our org. Is straight forward about what we're about and their are plenty of other options. What This comes down to is either $$$$ or putting the need to win above what is ethical. It's no wonder NCAA and Ohssa govern with an iron fist.
