Outdoor practice

I couldn't believe it but after all the rain we had our field is actually dry enough to play on. We have to utillize a city park diamond for our HS games and the maintainence is not that good so I'm going down to clean it up some and the practice with the DD as our school team has not had a single outdoor practice yet and the first game is Tuesday. Especially want the girl to get a little time in the metal cleats. Has anyone eles had any outdoor practices yet or have your facillities been under water until now like ours?

Our varsity baseball team has a large and well organized booster corps and the softball team doesn't have a functioning booster group at all unless I havn't heard of changes this year. The boys had "field day" Saturday to get their field in shape by the team and boosters all pitching in and working on it. I took it upon myself with the DD and her brother to put 4 hours in on field maintenance today as the first game is Tuesday and if the coach wants to get our first outdoor practice in on Monday that's an option now. Like at my age my back didn't hurt enough already!

Good for you, hockey! Too bad there aren't more people that take the time to help out their teams like that.

(Present company excluded- most posters on this board are already giving every minute of their free time to help the sport of softball!)

I always have an appreciation for the folks that keep the fields in good condition. One of the best ground crews I've run across is the bunch of guys that that care for the fields up in North Lewisburg. They really care about the fields and will do just about anything to make them nicer or get them in shape after some bad weather. These fields are about an hour from my house, but I like that little park so much, and the guys that run it, that I do a tournament there anytime I get the chance.

My men's fastpitch team has not been outside yet. We started indoor practices at All-Star Sports the last week of February- all on turf and I have the rug burns to prove it!

My problem is since we use a city park there seems to be no communication from the AD to the Director of Parks and Rec and what really needs done. I was trying hard not to roll an ankle today just walking the outfield and could you imagine with it being that bad running on it looking back over your shoulder for the ball? I'm going to call the city myself tomorrow and see if they won't get a guy with a roller out there. The other issue is they won't open the restrooms until we're beyond freezing weather which is understandable as they are not heated and things could burst and we went deep into the season last year without a toilet! The AD never arranged for a port-a-john and imagine how the opposing teams felt not being able to go! These are issues that should never happen on a yearly basis. >:(

Does the baseball team have a working restroom? If so, what is the difference. If not, maybe u need a new AD. >:(

They have a port-a-john by the bleachers but the year before last they moved it 100yds down the fence along the 3rd base line making it impossible for handicapped access as you had to basicaly almost squeeze between the dugout and the fence to reach it. My son's mother was battling cancer and couldn't make that trek. The AD kept saying it would be put back but never did until last year when they were threatened with being reported for violating the ADA. So what does that tell you about ?the AD? >:(
