14U Bracket B wrapped up this morning with an "If" game between Sorcerers (NorCal) and OCBB McNee. McNee won 4-3 to play Team Mizuno Campbell in the championship game at 7:30 ET.

A good mix of 16U teams from around the country placed in the top 16. GA did very well with 2 teams finishing tied for 5th and another tied for 9th. GA Impact Bass and the Vipers were 14U last year, which shows the "odd year" doesn't apply at HS age groups.

Yes, Mark Campbell has been the head coach at a local D1 powerhouse, Pacifica HS, for the last 5 years. They lost in the semi's this year to Norco, which won it all last year and finished 2nd this year. Santiago (Corona) won it this year, was second last year and won it in 2011 behind the pitching of Erica Romero, the former tOSU verbal that decommitted last summer when Linda K was let go.

Pacifica: Faith Canfield, So., IF/OF, Michigan; Kaylee Carlson, Jr., P, North Carolina; Rachel Cue, Sr., P, South Dakota; Nicole DeWitt, Jr., 3B/2B/Utility, Florida; Katya Duvall, So., P, Ohio State; Sydney Hart, Sr., C/DH, Utah State; Rebecca Lee, Sr., 1B, Ohio State; Brooke Marquez, Jr, 2B/Utility, Northwestern; Olivia Martinez, Sr., C, Cal State Fullerton; Ruby Rivera, Sr., SS/3B/Utility, Illinois; and Kaley Winegarner, So., P, Stanford

Mark has 3 DDs - '90, '94 and '98. He coached each one through 14U and then that team disbanded as he focused on the next DD's team. Here's a quote from someone that has known him a long time.

Over the years Mark never has wanted to play a ton of tournaments, not sure why but his philosophy has always been "those that can't teach play all the time". Not sure I've agreed with it over the years all the time but the man has always figured out a way to build champions so we've had limited chances to win "actual " tournaments over the years but I'm happy to say there's a method to the madness and he's found a way to lead a group of girls to another national championship. Call him want you want but he almost has two hands full of rings!

Who cares if Romero was let go, I am more excited about Rebecca Lee and Katya Duvall coming to tOSU. When Lee was on her visit, she is rumored to have said that they will need to put a cage on the scoreboard so she wont knock out so many lights when she hits the homeruns. Have heard nothing but good things about her hitting and her overall great attitude

I just want to say congrats to all of the Ohio kids competing at PGF Nationals last week and this week- what an amazing experience! The level of competition at 14u was unreal-my 14u daughter competed in Colorado and 16u Orland Sparks summer showcase (last year) and all 16u/18u this year and NONE of those tournaments had the caliber of talent we faced this week. The 14u California teams have some of the BEST pitch calling to complement their very strong pitching. They have definitely mastered the outside pitch and change of speeds.

PGF put on a fantastic tournament and the facilities were beautiful. The number of coaches at the 14u games were unreal! I personally saw: Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, ASU, Arizona, Oklahoma, OK State, Kansas, Boise State, South Carolina, Michigan State, UCLA, Cal, Cal State, Texas, Auburn, Illinois, Indiana, etc.

Kudos to the two Corona Angels teams for inviting us out for scrimmages prior to Nationals~ they were great hosts!
