Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitcher Ousted For Being Too Good

we are currently facing this very scenario...our daughter is on a rec fall league to continue her pitching skills, however we are finding it difficult to find a catcher to be able to catch her pitches...let alone the fact that she may scare the _ _ _ _ out of some of the batters, we had no idea when we signed her up that this would be the case...we might have to add a travel ball catcher, just to be able to keep up with her pitches...we also are considering letting this be a good time to work on that 'change up' :)

 Had same thing happen in our community, put in place the "Sammi" rules. Took a bat away from her because she was hitting the ball too far.
And this was before we found out about the Hi-tech bats. This was just one of my old slo-pitch bats to slow her swing down. This was at 10 and 1rst year 12u.
It really inhales to penalize someone who succeeds at anything.
Get him into travelball ASAP.

Just saw it on CNN. Sounds even worse when it's coming from the little boy. Wow, don't know how they explained that one.

We had a 7th grade pitcher play with the 8th graders because none of the 7th graders would catch her. she will be a 2nd year 14u this year, throws around 55-56. MD

My Brother coached a 9U boys team that made the u-trip elite 24 in Orlando this year. I sent him the MSN article and he said his team would have loved to see someone who only threw 40mph! His local rec organization kicked him and his son out last year saying they were to competitive, the league was targeted for the below average player. Now that is setting some big goals for kids.......try to be below average,LOL

Just watched the video!! The boy just wants to play ball. They feel the president of the organization (the barber shop owner) sponsors a team that has won the championship for the last 3 years and they take risk of loosing this year. The boy doesn't look like a bruit. The parents should be ashamed.

These things not only happen in sports, but it seems to happen more and more each day in every workplace and school as well. Not surprised.

The Wussification of America's youth continues. Our grandparents are probably laughing hysterically at this. Sports are suppose to teach real life values besides teamwork etc, in this case I think it could teach kids to face their fears, if indeed they are even afraid and its not just parents upset they cant beat this kid. What a shame, the wussifaction must STOP, everybody doesnt win, everybody does not deserve a trophy, everybody is not athletic. If we are going to treat sports this way, why not academics to, give everybody an A++, forget hardwork that makes you good or even great at sports and academics as long as everybody feels good about themselves.

Pathetic.

I know of a girl that was 10 and had to play in the 12 u league because she was that good. she ended up takeing her high school to the state finals. she also received a scholarship. My daughter is working on this same track the other girl is her cousin. In our rec leagues we allow 3 travel ball players per team up to the 14-u then none from there.

They are talking about this on Mike and Mike in the Morning. They said he throws 40MPH and is 9U. There are many many 9U girls in the state who face pitchers who throw a lot harder than that week in and week out in the summer. I would say 40MPH is just average. REC ball, you gotta love it.:lmao::yahoo:

40 MPH at 10U ? My daughter played Rec at 10U ... And I seen Maybe 3 pitchers all Year Faster than that. It is above average for a 9 yr. old I would think. Geez I seen dozens of Pitchers that were TOO GOOD...this past summer in 14U...lol Should we ban them ?

my10year old DD played rec and travel this year for the stingrays. She pitched a inning or two the year before in the rec. I was unsure she could compete in travel so i left her in rec. Turns out she worked her tail off all winter 4 days a week and was in the starting rotation on her travel team. That ment she could'nt pitch untill the 4th inning I also had another travel pitcher on the team she had to split that time with. The two combined all year had 2 runs scored on them but we still lost 5 games. So what these rec leagues are telling the kids is if you practice we will make sure you lose your share of games to.Because loooooosing is what we have done are whole life so you have to experance it to. needless to say she will not be playing rec next year.

I know of a girl who when she was 10 was told that because she was hitting the ball so hard, the recreation board was worried that she would hurt someone and would appreciate it if she would play travel and not return the next year.

Bear the same thing happend to us ,we were asked that our daughter play somewhere else , to many injuries from kids trying to catch what the dd hit, had one father get realy upset during a game where his daughter took a shot to the face from a hard hit ground ball....pointed at my daughter and yelled she dosent belong here, ....... thinking back on it,,,, was the best thing that could have ever happend

I forget to mention they had no proplem asking her to play allstars where there were no pitching restrictions.
can you imagine if your boss pulled u into his office and said we need to talk he continued on to say you are making me to much money because you are working to hard.Thats great but you are making everyone else look bad, so I am going to have to ask you to bring a bag of chips and a remote to work with you that way you wont get as much work done. Now that's what these people in the rec league are teaching your kids about life..........

You're forgetting the most important factor in the story: It's CONNECTICUT! Too many weiners running programs there-- kind of like NE Ohio.

nothing like a good vurp. This is a Liberal issue and down right sorry. This resides right next to "you shouldn't punish your child for wrong doing...".

vurp???
1. vurp
It's when you burp and a little bit of vomit comes up your esophagus into your mouth. Burp + vomit = vurp.
At the thought of dating Billy Bob with his mullet and his gaped front teeth for squirting Copenhagen, I vurped the special sauce from my Big Mac.

And I don't think we can politicize this . I wouldn't say this is a liberal issue---more of an overprotective parent issue, lol.
