If your daughter takes pitching lessons, Do you pay someone to catch for them? Or how much would you pay for someone to catch for them?

I do not pay someone to catch for her, I aready pay $50 an hour for the lesson. My dd's best friend catches her to get extra catching work. I think it is a good idea for a young girl to get some extra pocket money...but I personally wouldn't pay for a catcher.

I caught her for years, and when she got a new catcher in high school she needed the work and took over. Now she is in college and I don't have to catch for her at all (thank god, drop and drop curve killed my ankles). No way would I pay someone to catch. Good father daughter bonding time.

My dd has caught pitching lessons for various pitchers and has never charged for the opportunity to don the tools of ignorance.

Disclaimer: I am not a pitcher's parent therefore I did not vote in the poll.

For those that didn't see the other thread let me explain what Louuu is doing. A girl, a child is looking for people who need someone to catch their pitching lesson and will do it for $10 a hour. She would travel to the lesson and back. Seems very reasonable to me. With drive time it could be a couple hours for $10. Lou has a problem with that.

What he said:

"with as much money as parents shell out for pitching lessons already, I think most of them would risk a few bruised shins before forking over more money for a catcher".

"However, two points: A.) I have machine operators working for me with 5 years experience who don't make $10/hour.
- and B.) Pitching lessons are what? $35-$40 per hour (and more) So instead of spending $160-ish a month, you're now at $200 a month, + gas, etc... In my part of Ohio, that's substantial."

This poll is a continuation of his attack on what this girl is trying to do. It's pathetic. He may not agree or wouldn't pay someone himself but why he is going through so much trouble to sabotage this girl's endeavor is puzzling and sad. He's a grown man, a bully.

Some said they enjoyed catching their kid and wouldn't pay someone which is great. Lucky you but many don't like it or can't always have the time so what's wrong with paying a modest fee? I always enjoyed caring for my kids but sometimes I hired a babysitter to do it? Yea, $10 an hour.

He should have just let the thread pass by as it was no skin off his back.

The girl should be applauded for looking for ways to make an honest buck. We should help her, not hinder her or just stay out of the way.

I recently lost my glove and until I have another that is well broken in, I'd gladly (and already have) paid for someone to catch for my DD. The other members of my family are lefty's and my husband is out of town a lot - I cherish my teeth!

Musty, how can this be an attack? I don't even know the girl. I don't know where she's from. And I never suggested that everybody should avoid her.

Whatever problem you have with me, get over it. No one is being "attacked" here.

If it's not an attack then what is it? She posted looking for business and you have gone out of your way to keep her from getting any. You said people would be better off with bruised shins then paying her. You said $10 hour is too much. Now this poll. Trying to drive home the point no one should pay for a catcher. Why all this effort to thwart her? Why not leave her alone?

I voted $10.00 but the poll is sorta misleading. I will catch my kid every time I can but if I couldn't I sure wouldn't have a problem paying a kid to do it. Especially knowing how hard it is for them to earn some cash!

I gladly catch for my DD. It is great bonding time. But, if one of our catchers, or any catcher asks to get some work in, they are more than welcome to catch her as well. But I would never hire anyone to do it. I may be getting older, but I can still hang!

Man I should become a talk show host, never knew my DD trying to earn 20 or 30 bucks a week would start such a stir.

Louuuu - why are you even asking? If you want to pay for her services, then contact them, if not, then why even post anything at all? Do you raise questions like this on Craigslist or other similiar websites? Do you question the Girl Scouts selling cookies? How about the little kids running a lemonade stand?
This has gone way too far is very much beneath an adult?

I would always catch my daughter, but it was mainly for us to have some time together. If for some reason I wasn't able, and she couldn't get a friend, paying someone else $10 seems reasonable to me.
