Let us call every pitch during every game our DD pitches, from behind the backstop, then the world would be a better place! :p

I'll throw my line in the water.

It's rather simple. If your DD is a pitcher, find and org. that needs a coach or form your own team. That way your DD will get to pitch everygame. Simple.

;D Most of the time a loss is always the defense's fault.....never the pitcher. ;D

Despite this being a team sport, the pitcher gets the win or loss. Visit the local news papers during school ball or after a baseball game. Very simple. Being a parent of 2 pitchers, news print can be very critical towards pitchers. And, how much of this game is pitching / catching? It's great when the defense see's 2 or 3 hits a game. Anything can happen after that. But the pitcher still gets the win / loss. brutal.

O.k. I'll take the bait. Yes, we do seem to be a little crazy sometimes but try and remember what we've endured in the off season. On top of 1-2 team practices/week, our daughters continue to pitch 100 pitches 3-4 times/week(try in find indoor facilities for this), while playing other sports and going to those practices. They also have daily workout routines and 2 hour pitching lessons to fit in(how do you think they are able to pitch so many games in the heat in one day). Remember, these are teenagers-a lot of this comes with some major attitude. Why do we do it? Our daughters LOVE to pitch-we would do anything for them! So when you see that pitcher's dad with the bad knees(who do you think does all that catching for them) or that pitcher's mom pacing the sidlines, give them a break-they've endured a lot during the off season to see their daughter on that mound.

what i meant to say was, pitcher's parents...what to do...when you want to congratulate them for all the wins they picked up, and for working harder than most of the players on the team (maybe along with the catchers) ...

did you thnk anything else? ?what is this ofc coming to when everything out my mouth is considered blasphemy...hmm, maybe i should change my moniker to softballlove04 or something

and no, my DD doesnt pitch, thank goodness...when she tried to pick it up back when she was 11, i didn't want to spend the time chasing her unpredictable rise ball over the neighbor's fence, or to get her to stop crow hopping....i have only so much patience...of course, we get to school ball 7th grade and there is only 1 girl who can pitch and others who dont want to, and i think, well, if if if....

not to mention the stress of possibly having to call pitches or sweat out every inning, it's already bad enough i stress out about at-bats and infield grounders...

I will only say that I am much more relaxed watching the games when my dd is NOT pitching.

I just had to reply to Cats94, I think that you should know that there are moms that actually catch for their daughter's also. I have 2 girls that pitch and I run them to not only practices but I have to catch for both of them 90% of the time because their dad works rotating shifts. I have been hit just as much as anyone out there so give credit where credit is due and understand that moms put in just as much time as dads do.

Change 90% to 98% of the time I catch. Usually even at pitching lessons.

RMD:

Yes, it's a much more relaxing experience when your kid isn't on the mound. This summer and the last DD hasn't played travel ball but my spouse has helped to coach on an 18U team. One game I turned in the stands to the pitcher's mom and said "I'm sure glad it's your kid pitching and not mine." She gave me a look that said both that she totally understood and that she could have done without the comment. ;D. In a way I'm glad DD has dropped summer ball. As old as I am, the college season is more than enough stress for me.

BTW, Bold1 started telling me at least five years ago that all pitchers' parents are just flat out crazy.

And if your dd just happens to be the other pitcher on a team like that, help her practice her skills at another position, especially one that isn't played by the coaches kid.

Look for the teams that try and even out the pitching. Ask the right questions. Will your dd start some of the games? Will all the pitchers get the chance to start in some of the games? etc.... Don't expect her to pitch ALL the games. But you can expect her to start some and finish them if she's doing the job. If she's not, as a parent, be prepared to see her pulled. (If my dd is getting hit like crazy or is not "on" that game, I am the first one to want her pulled. It won't help her any to stay in and be hammered!)

Being a pitchers mom, I also hate to see the other pitchers on the team not get any rubber time. On my dd's rec team we had a pitcher that never got any rubber time. I finally "reminded" the coaches that she pitched. She still didn't see much time (more inexperienced) but she got some time. A lot of time and money goes into developing dd's as pitchers. We should all be helping each other to make sure things stay as fair as possible.

Pipe dream??? :-/ Maybe.
