Have heard many reasons why most don't post these game scores and played at some that do.I really think that if the average travel player parent knew how we play these games they might understand that there not a true representation of the teams a lot of the time. With player rotations to give larger roster teams exposure to coach's that could be watching and requests for changes requested by coach's to see certain players definitely could not be your strongest 9 and changing game outcomes.I'd realize this and take that into consideration if there posted.I noticed several people asking about scores at these and decided to bring it up .Id say a coach count and getting a value for games played a greater importance.

I can vouch that some teams definitely make some choices on their pitching rotation based on who is asking to see a particular thrower . It does change the game . We also had a team not follow our request this past weekend to see a pitcher throw a second time .

My take is that showcase scores do have some importance. Sure teams are batting their roster and may play games a little differently but I would say they are still playing to win. When showcases are selective it is important to have good showings and wins against good teams. That makes scores important from prior showcases. I would also gather each team involved has a score keeper and includes stats from showcases in season totals both for the team and players.

If we're not going to keep score let call it soccer and give everyone a ice cream cone.

1st off if I was going to host a true showcase event! I would want to make it easy on College Coaches to find the players they come to watch and in return I would want the players to be able to share that info with the College Coaches coming to see them. The last thing I would be worry about is the scores or who wins the showcase. It's a showcase not a tournament. If your showcase is setup like a tournament, is it really a showcase? No its a tournament.

If I ran a showcase it would have everything to do about College Coaching and Players getting together. If I ran a showcase it would be completely different then how everyone else run a showcase.

Ricky ,We are talking about the true showcase format and reporting those scores,Not a tournament that college coach's just choose to attend due to good teams /players are playing there, typically those games are posted and coachs don't ask for players to play at there request.

If it's a true showcase, I don't care about the scores, but to Ricky's point if there is an elimination round resulting in a champion, then I am more interested in the scores and/or who at least won. The issue is that there are 3 kinds of events that are called showcases ...

1) Ones that are a true showcase and there is no eventual winner ... there are a few out there (Wolfpack Best of the Best?) ... they are 16-U and 18-U teams (yeah, there could be a very high level 14-U one), a fair amount of college coaches attend and teams play a round robin of sorts. While scores are usually kept, the standard rules of the game aren't necessarily followed (e.g., batting order) to allow flexibility for college coaches to see certain players do certain things.

2) Ones where there are a lot of college coaches, but the rules of the game are followed, and there is a bracket with an individual winner. Stingrays would be an example of this. I like to know in this kind of showcase the scores and winners of the bracket games ... pool games would be irrelevant in my mind.

3) A tournament that calls itself a showcase but isn't really one, and this may be the most common. Standard rules of the game are followed, there is a winner, and there are few to no college coaches. All 10U and 12U tournaments automatically fall into this category, and most 14U as well. The 16U and 18U ones that call themselves a showcase that really aren't should be called out for misleading advertising. I would think all game scores are relevant to report.

Good breakdown Jeff ,I think event organizers are using the term showcase a little loosely to draw teams and get more money. An accurate account by team coach's other than host , would truelly show this.Lets make it happen.

We do a showcase and a tournament that are separate.
(A tournament without keeping score, having a winner and looser is just a practice.)

We do a skill showcase for individual players on Friday night after sunset on four lighted fields. This allows the players to get a lot of repetitions and to show of their skills. The Showcase is run by the local university softball team and coaches (IUP) at college speed. We only take about 100 players in order to complete the entire showcase in two hours. They are tested at various activities and those tests results are emailed to the attending coaches.

The Tournamnet is a 5GG, with the 1st four games being in pool play and then Sunday is a single elimination tournament. We had some 40 coaches here over the 2015 weekend with most attending the games on Saturday. Since the players know their Friday and Saturday schedules; the college coaches can make arrangement to see them in game situations. It is a very poor travel ball coach that won't accommodate a player and her potential college coach.

We had 73 - 16 and 18U teams attend the 2015 I(c)SST and that helped attract those college coaches. We had 25 colleges sign up and more than 40 coaches actually attended. We are a regional tournament and not a 'National' although several teams use us as a tuneup to a national schedule. There are over 200 colleges (only five D-1 programs) within a two hour drive that will need almost a thousand players each year. These are the programs that most of our DD's will play for. I(c)SST's mission is to match players to colleges at all levels. It must be working we will run out fields next year and have to cap participation.

2016 I(c)SST will be June 3rd, 4th and 5th.

I still would like to know scores of each and every game . If you go 0-5 on the weekend and average giving up 7-8-9 runs per game it matters . Just as if you go 5-0 and give up a total of 8 runs .

I know with Team NJ this past weekend that they put the scores up on the scheduling boards. They also dumped said scheduling boards in the garbage after the last games on Sunday. D9 does the same. The only reason winning even matters at most of these showcases is for future field positions. That's important at these types of showcases when many venues are used.

As far as subbing etc., if a college coach comes up and wants to see Susie at 3B and she's catching, coach calls time out and puts Susie at 3B. Whatever a college coach wants to see the coach should comply. We had one game where a college coach requested these changes from our team, CF to 2B, P to SS and 1B to P. Coach from either team nor the players even blinked an eye.

ETA: Those scores that they threw in the garbage; well they were posted on line this morning. LOL
