Doing push-ups and running for errors/drops/missed bunts?Maybe spend more time playing/teaching softball.Go run track if you want a workout.
Hear a lot of school ball doing a lot of "conditioning" but I feel especially with middle school kids they need practice and teaching.
Need to punish a kid for attitudes/mouth/slacking?Don't play them, they'll get it.

Personally I have yet to coach girls that young, but 18s? Crack the whip! Hold them accountable.......Any player that does not take contructive criticism, or thinks they are really that good, isnt coachable .College coaches are not going to baby them at all! So, as they get older, you gotta get tougher as they progress. This isn't the only way, but it works for me. Coach during the week, manage on the weekend.

There is so many variables. If my whole team is goofing off, not focused and over throwing everything. You bet your a** "drop your gloves and run. These are not little kids here they are 11-12 years old. Walking around with Iphones. They know how to focus, just need a little reminder ;)

I coach a 10U team and you better believe we will run. If the team loses focus then it is a lap. If a couple players lose focus then it is a team lap. We are a team, and not individuals so the entire team always runs when needed.

Pitching coach will make the girls do push ups as a reminder to drag through on pitch. It is not a brutal punishment and they seem to embrace it.

Building a team and not possible without punishment and rewards..

Incorporating running, pushups, sit-ups whatever it may be into a practice is a great way to accomplish both skill, discipline and fitness. Way too many fat out shape softball players. Talent and heart being equal physically strong wins in the end!

Team game if a routine play should be made and not the team runs. focus improves instantly.

Worked on a mouse and is still used on your kids today in school... When not doing what they need to do, it is redirecting to what they need to do... When after redirecting the student still does not follow directions... change the directions...
