pregame routine

First I want to start off by saying how much this group has helped me- we are 5-1 so far, losing tonight 1-0. ?

My question is what do teams do for pregame? ?I don't think my team is getting enough swings, loosening enough, etc., etc.

From the time you arrive at the field until the first pitch what do you do and how long do you do it? ?This is for both home and away games.

Whatever you can tell me will help.

Thanks again group.

well, i would first start with a light jog, like around the field, then stretch everything from arms, legs, and backs. Usually do each stretch for about 10 seconds. then, start warming up your arms with throwing. then, if u have time, do hitting stations, like a soft toss, and inside and outside tee drills. that should be enough swings for the girls. hope this works out for you.

* stretch

* throw with partner -- series of different throws, short, long, one knee, etc.

* hitting stations -- I like whiffle balls because you can throw them hard but they don't go far when hit. We use regular and ones that are easy to make break ( holes on one side only). We also use a Swiftstik with golf ball sized whiffles, and do some bunting with real balls. A lot of teams hit real balls into a portable net as well.

* finally we take infield

Well, I spoke up too soon. ?We played a team tonight that always makes the state tournament and we got 15 runned in the first game of a DH, and 10 runned in the second one. ?We did some good stuff before the game but gave up 10 unearned runs in the first game and it all fell apart for the rest of the evening. ?I have 7 players in new positions from last year and it showed. ?Our hitting was way off, and I need to get more and better swings pregame, and we are averaging about 4 errors a game. ?I want to maximize our pregame time. ?Thanks for your help.

we all get in a circle and stretch then sometimes we jog a short distance and come back. We throw for a while then we go into little stations like hitting golf balls, soft toss, etc. While we hit the pitchers warm up ater they hit. Seems to help our team. Also we cheer a lot of the time to get us pumped up, especially in the morning. Its important to have fun and do differnt things so you dont bore them with the same thing every time. We meet 1 hour before the game and start to do all of this. hope this helps

We get in a circle and stretch then run once around the outfield and twice around the bases. Then we warm up throwing. After that we rest until we see the other teams bus then the pitchers warm up and the other team can use the field. Then we do grounders and throw home. Then grounders to first. Then double plays. Then outfield does cut offs. Last but not least we do a grounder throm home then a bunt throw to first.

My high school uses a set of streches that they learned from a clinic with Dr. Dot Richardson, they involve lunges, and making the throwing motion without the ball to strech, then we do short sprint work, like the length between two bases, and then soft toss

I suggest lots of ice cold greasy pizza and french fries and wash it down with iced coffee right before the game you play against us. A chugging contest involving Mountain Dew should also do the trick. We will give the winner a prize. No water before the game either! If I can provide any more tips, please don't hesitate to ask!
