Good input guys. One thing i try to never do is surprise parents so springing public stats on them may be a bit much too soon. Im gonna go with 'player a' approach for now. Tx much.

I sent stats out one time and one of my assistants called me immediately. He said "Bill I am not sure this is a good idea, I think stats are like a woman's weight, we should just leave this topic alone". that was the last time I sent out team stats to parents. :cap:

There's a s***r organization in Youngsville, NC called the Youngsville Area Kids S****r and it is abbreviated as Y.A.K.S.

Are they from near Youngsville?

Web site didn't have an address but I did see an area code of 336 which is Winston Salem, Greensboro area. Don't know where Youngsville is. Did see on the web site that the coach of the YAK team we beat (hehe) played softball at the University of Dayton.

I think the way to do it is to send each DD's parent their DD's individual stats, along with a team average as a base line. That way they know where little Susie needs to improve. Publishing the stats for all of the kids will not help those kids on the bottom rungs of the ladder.

Just leave that sleeping dog lie. The parents who are going to B$@$& will do so either way. The other 95% of the parents know what kids are producing, or are working hard trying to produce. There is more to playing than the data sometimes too......

As with most discussions on OFC the people responding are looking at it from either one of two totally different worlds. I'l say rec and travel for a lack of better terms. Teams playing at the higher levels are not going to have a problem with published stats. Those playing at the more recreational level or B level travel might. Probably the below average ones. Can't blame them for not wanting it publicized.

I would say if you are seriously pursuing playing in college you better not have a problem with your stats being published.

couldn't agree more. we started as a community 'travel' team two years ago with the plan of transforming into a more competitive level of fastpitch. this is part of that transformation process.

i used to send each girls stats shown compared to a team composite. yesterday, i sent my master stats sheet with replacement names for everyone except their dd with an explaination of what i was doing differently. next step will be fully publicized team stats. i've received no feedback...as of yet, lol.

I always did as Bear described. One coach also had me keep a team leaders sheet with the top 3-4 at the major stats.

The new scoring systems (e.g. Gamechanger, iScore, etc.) make the stats available to everyone. Anyone have any issues with that?

No issues yet. Parents love Gamechanger now that we stream it live to those subscribed. We only release viewing to the players family. No sharing... so, a win-win! Love Gamechanger.

Others have already stated the stats are only as good as the person entering them so, it is the coaches responsibility to insure the statistician understands the role and what the expectations are. If handled correctly it can be a very good measurement tool for coaches. I have been blessed to have two very good people over the past 10 years handle this.
Good programs can also help a coach in many more ways than just offensive stats.

Like Must stated, Most varsity High School teams post team and individual stats as will the colleges so, at 15 and up is is information that will be public on profiles etc.

Under 14 keep it to the individual but make it available to them. The program I use allows me to pick and choose who I want to have access to what so, the numbers can be viewed by coaches, individual parents or public.
