DD received notice that she was chosen to be a team pitcher at the QDSN. She is currently also signed up for the KSU camp the day before. I confess I'm not familiar with the QDSN. Is this too much for one weekend? Thanks in advance.

PGM:

Congrats on the selection to QDSN. Don't skip KSU clinic. College coaches will see her there and if they are impressed will make a note to watch her in the QDSN game situation. KSU is a foot in the door, so to speak, to getting watched during the QDSN games.

How does the QDSN work? I received the general description from Kirt but have no experience with it.

If Kirt runs this as in years past, some of the teams are composed by the fact that certain players will be on the same team for Cup 2010 later in the month in the Netherlands. The remaining teams will be put together on a basis that I'm not sure of: maybe it's random, maybe it's intended to really highlight a stud by providing her with the best supporting cast, maybe it's intended to create parity. As I said, I'm really not sure how the non-Cup players are placed together. And then there is a schedule for each team to play its games. There will be highly sophisticated and public radar timing of pitching speed, so discuss with your DD how she is going to deal mentally with that. A member of the QDSN staff generally watches a complete game and selects a "Best of the Best" for that game (essentially an MVP of that game). After the Showcase is over, certain offensive and defensive stats are posted online for the attending coaches.

My description may be a little stale since we were last there with DD in 2006, but perhaps some more recent attendees can point out where the description is out of date. I know the Whitesides are always looking for new ways to provide College Coaches with what they want to see.

We signed up for both Camps this year. We are skipping the QDSN this year, since she is a Freshman, but plan on entering next year.

From what we have seen its normaly position fill as needed per team , every year theres normaly an over abundunce of more than one position, and they will sometimes ask if you can play your secondary or even another position if needed . There are times certain coaches request certain kids that come thru the system. all in all very well run. youll enjoy your time.just dont be heart broken if shes younger and she dosent get alot of profile attention her first time thru.......... have fun

If your DD is there as a pitcher, be well rested and prepared for the KSU camp Saturday morning. I consider that "prime exposure time" for pitchers. If you're looking for a specific coach, the chances for exposure later on might be spotty at best. Remember, the college coaches are on limited time, and they do take lunch & dinner breaks. Just hope that your DD's 15 minutes "shared time" in a game isn't when they're gone.

PGM: Congrats to your DD on being selected. One thing is for sure - she WILL get a ton of looks, especially during the pitching clinic. Coach Linder has all the pitchers line up side by side in the middle of the field. She uses the loud speaker to announce which pitch the girls should throw. During that time the college coaches will be right behind her watching her. One piece of advice i always gave my pitchers was to bring/have a good catcher to throw to. Mom or dad is ok but it's better to have a regular catcher. At about 5:00pm the QDSN games will start. Many college coaches can then watch girls in game action. All in all there's always a great turnout of college coaches.

My older daughter did this same schedule and was beat by the time the QDSN ended. The Kent workout is nonstop with Coaches literally just over the pitchers shoulder. There is no down time. The Kent workout is very intense, like a really long playoff game. To take a break and come back in great shape for the QDSN as a pitcher is a lot to ask. It will like throwing that 4th game on a Saturday. Her speeds may be a little off and her best stuff may not be as sharp for the QDSN. If she is incredibly strong and pitches late into Sundays then go for it. It would certainly give the College coaches a second and third chance to see her. If she is young and doesn't show well when tired then by all means pick one. It is far better to look great for an hour than look great for an hour; then get rocked in the QD Games.

Good Luck; you have a tough decision.

I think as long as you pace yourself duting the Kent St. Showcase in the morning you will be fine. It is not about rapid fire in the showcase(quality not quantity, right?)

One thing to also keep in mind is, timed games, starting with a count of 1-1, and also a limit on the number of batters per inning. Also switching with another pitcher.

Your daughter will be fine, its not like she is pitching complete games in the summer with no relief in sight.

I was told it was an NCAA violation being committed by Kent State to have those radar guns behind home plate, by a very knowledgeable college. I was told you are not allowed to host a showcase on a college campus and then time them.

Kent State doesn't have them, the QDSN does (or used to). If its an NCAA violation, then I'm sure the Whitesides won't have them there.
