I saw this posted on another board and remembered some people on OFC went last year. Please post your thoughts here because I'm sending him the link to this thread.

Hi. Does anyone have any experience with the Queen of Diamonds Showcase and the camp held the same weekend at Winthrop? I have a pitcher who is interested in a college that is attending the camp but it is a 6.5 hour drive down for an hour long camp. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the showcase camp and could offer any ideas on the number and type of college coaches that are normally down there. Any information would be appreciated.

I will let you know tomorrow. I know they don't publicize the actual numbers - but I think I remember hearing there were over 175 coaches last year. Kirt is in Orlando and I am meeting with him tomorrow. I have a bunch of kids attending and I am going to be on staff this Labor Day in Rock Hill, so it better be good!!!

Went last yr..dd is a D1 pitcher recruit...thought the pitching camp was useless (very few coaches came in Fri for that) ... games were fun but very few D1-D2 coaches there during weekend. Definitely quite a few D3 and NAIA coaches...so it just matters what type of school you are looking for.

Thought there were lots more coaches at QDSN in Ohio. JMHO

Agree with this assessment 100%

Like the layout of the South better due to playing in real field conditions. You will see different schools attending as well, due to Southern exposure. If the girls have an incling that they'd like to go South, try it is what I'd say. You never know what could happen. With the QD's The one thing they get more than the game experience is how to communicate to the coaches, which is worth the excercise itself.. You will only get maybe 8 at bats the whole weekend though..

DD did not attend the camp only the Showcase. It was a great experience and I liked the idea of actually being on the field playing with great weather conditions. When DD attended in 2007 I thought there were more college coaches than up north. It seemed like you always saw numerous coaches walking around and watching the games.

If you have an interest in attending a school down south well worth the exposure since the majority are from the south. We drove 12 hours and would do it all over again. DD or myself was approached by 3 coaches while she was down there playing. Wound up going to a D2 in W. Virginia.

Not positive of the different divisions but I know there were a lot of D2 coaches in attendance.

Have to echo Hilliarddad and Hittinthefence. DD went to the QDSS last year. Did not attend the Camp before though. Personally did not see alot of coaches - they may have been incognito - idk. However, it was a great experirence for her playing with the girls from the south and a D1 and D2 school started following her this year. They didn't make it to any tourneys in Ohio (that i know of) but wanted her to send them a recruiting video and keep them up to date on her season. Also got the invites to attend their fall and winter camps. So overall it worked out for us making the trip south. Wanted to go this year but couldn't fit it in.

I spoke with Kirt today...we talked about the Queen of Diamonds and how more and more colleges are looking at 13u kids. He even told me that there is a 12u kid here in Ohio being scouted for what she can do offensively and that a couple Ohio Universities have already verballed 14u kids. Glad to hear that you will be part of the staff.
