Recruiting Advice

It varies, depending on where they stand with their 2011 class. I'd guess the D1 isn't going to allow very much time at this point of the year, but it's impossible to offer a good guess without knowing the schools' individual situations.

Now that it's almost September of her senior year, I'd be researching everything beforehand, gathering information on those trips, and then being ready to move pretty quickly instead of sitting on offers at this point in time.

I know the DI has 2 spots for 2011, one of them being my DD's position.

My DD is a junior this year. The problem is she had a terrible sophmore year with grades. So bad that I have been dragging my feet on contacting or doing anything toward scholarship things. I have been told by quite a few people that she has the talent to play at the next level but with the GPA being so low now she is going to need a stellar Junior year to bring it up and maybe even some of her Senior year? She has picked an aggressive Junior schedule with CP classes and she talks about playing in College all the time I just don't know if it can still happen for her. I don't know how you would even approach a potential school without a solid GPA or a great ACT? She will be taking it this fall but we don't know how her scores will be. Where should we begin?

I can't really answer your question, but when I was a senior I heard about the Junior colleges down south. My take on what they are (and anyone can chime in if I'm wrong..) is that it's similar to community colleges up here, but the sports are more competitive. Basically, they prepare student athletes to go on to a d2 or d1 school to play after 2 years at the junior college. They also give good scholarships for athletics. That might be a good option for your daughter.
Also, a bad year can be redeemed. If she has a great junior and senior year and does well on the act/sat then she could be okay.

I've heard similar things about JC. The grades are a biggie, as there are academic standards that must be met to be accepted at any university. But if your DD has all the rest - a continuously improving GPA, great athletic skills, demonstrates a disciplined attitude - a coach is going to be more willing to take a chance on her, PROVIDED she meets the minimum academic standards. Remember, she must be prepared for being a LONG way from home, which is sometimes a BIG hurdle. Never give up...

"MOVING QUICKLY" that caught my eye, learn what you want from this...

Labor Day weekend of DDs SR year visited a D2 campus she very much was interested in and met with the coach. Coach ask her on her visit if she was willing to sign early, much to my surprise she told him "NO"...oh the thoughts that went through my head . Her reasoning was that she was still in communication with a couple of D1 coaches she was waiting for offers from.

She continued to stay in contact with the D2, even telling everyone back home that that would be her choice if nothing else came up & set up another visit (basically put all her eggs in his basket without letting him know). The last day of the early signing period she received an e-mail from him letting her know that his roster was complete and he was cancelling her visit and would not be making her an offer. She was crushed!!!

It was only after she dried her tears, that she realized her dream was slipping away FAST and started to be a little pushy. As far as the D1 coaches, school #1 - assistant coach who was recruiting her retired and head coach said that playing position was now filled...school #2 DD applied to, was accepted to the college, visited the school, watched a team practice, met with the coaches & then was offered a walk on position with no money in March.

She did end up signing with a D2 school in the area of the country she wanted to be and does love being there, so all is well, but you have to think if she would have been more persistant earlier on, would she have had more offers earlier.
