Roster Release

I know this has been discussed a thousand times but lets make it 1001. If a girl is 12 but has been playing 14U ASA and all tournaments are done. What needs to be done to fill-in for a 12U tournament after her teams done with their 2011 tournaments. She was asked to help out another team and would like to do so if possible. Neither team is going to Nationals. Her current team didn't qualify in any tournaments.

Really no one has any info? I can't find an answer for ASA. Found answers for NSA but that doesn't help me.

I don't believe ASA has roster release forms. They have pick-up player forms for play at the National level. A pick-up player joins a team when their team has completed play, and is no longer in the running for National qualification.

You also didn't say that the 12U tournament is a qualifier, but I am guessing it is since you are asking about roster moves. If the tournament is not a qualifier, she can play without restriction. (They may use ASA rules, but that doesn't really mean anything.)

I would go the pick-up player route because it is the closest thing to what you are trying to achieve.

To my knowledge; if the sanction is ASA and your daughter participated in any ASA qualifier tourney this season, she is locked to that roster for the remainder of the summer. I still do not agree with this but this is how I interpreted the threads earlier that were quoting State Director Jones' ruling. Your daughter was more than welcome to play up and could have moved back down had the 14u team never played in a qualifier. This is only for ASA. USSSA does not freeze the roster unless the team accepts the bid to the World Series. Only teams that qualify or take an "at large" berth and commit to go have rosters frozen and reviewed. I'm unfamiliar with NSA or PONY.

I don't believe the tournament she wants to sub for is a qualifier. Doesn't appear to be just says a national tune up. Her current team has not qualified and I don't feel they will receive a berth in the next few weeks. So as long as the tournaments are not qualifiers we are good to go? And her current team is not qualified?

NSA rule would be she could be released to go to another 14u team thru the season which ends August 31. If she was age-eligible (birth year of 1999) on Sept 1 to still play 12u, she could potentially drop back down. Release form or e-mail usually takes care of the release portion.

We also allow 2 releases now: 1 from Sept to Dec 31, and the second one from Jan 1 to August 31. This is not to hinder players who get picked up in the fall and then go back to there normal teams in the spring/summer.
