thanks johnnies...my handle is more from my venture into the slowpitch arena where they deemed me perfect for the outfield. ha. slight miscalculation....plus, STOPDROPANDROLL wouldn't fit...not so much from being on fire, but because at any given moment it would happen. ::)
when we picked jerseys i went ahead and got E-9 on the back of mine.. made scoring so much easier. lol
actually, it could have been the beer before and after the game that "helped' me with slowpitch.
in my younger fastpitch days i could really catch....still occasionally did the stop drop and roll thing though..but it looked much better at a size 8.
go figure.
your coach and mine must be related.....those are the best huh??
your story was great, except that part about being in the batters box when you overheard that...my question to you is...'WERE YOU STILL HOLDING THE BAT??????????? LOL

Bretman-We were told at the rules interpretation meeting that you could rate umpires on the OHSAA website. But I am sure that it is the same as baseball, few coaches actually use it. We were also told this was how umpires were picked for the state tournamet.

I think a few people had it right, get behind the plate and you will have a new respect for umpires. I umpired for 9-10 year olds a few years ago. It was awful. Parents were the worst. That was the last summer I umpired, but you will also never hear me argue or yell at an ump. I may ask for clarification on a call, but that is usually because I didn't hear him/her. I think more coaches should have to umpire before coaching, it might give us all a new perspective!

they should start the ump as a coach program in the rec leagues, where the parents begin to harbor all those ill-conceived feelings about the umps during their DD's games, probably just remembering being stiffed as a kid when they were in rec ball

I don;t think it was a requirment in PYAA (Pickerington), but I got my first taste behind the plate during a scrimmage,..i was ready to ring up coaches and the pouty girls who complained about the zone....that's what I get for having no patience (and maybe no realization of the strike zone ..lol
