Scoring Decision...

I could be wrong but I think the actual play in this case is defensive indiference, same as a fielders choice.

If you're opinion is not supported by a scoring guideline and you're giving girls hits when the scoring guidelines clearly define it as something other than a hit, then you're doing nothing more that inflating batting averages. it's easy to see why college coaches put very little weight on travel ball and HS stats. The original post is a FC

I agree with your viewpoint on stats and college coaches. They may take a look at them if provided, but what weight they give them would depend on a variety of factors. JMHO.

@Doug: The batter only gets a sacrifice when a runner is advanced.

There are occasions when the scorer should record the plate appearance (for batting stats) separate from accounting for the batter reaching base. Here are some examples:

- Sac and FC: batter lays down a bunt that advances runner(s), reaches base because the defense made an unsuccessful attempt on a runner and batter would have been out if they made the initial play on her.

- Sac and error: batter lays down a bunt that advances runner(s), reaches base because of an error by the defense and would have been out if they hadn't made an error.

- Strikeout and PB/WP: batter strikes out and reaches base because of a WP or PB where the defense didn't recover in time to retire her at 1B.

- Strikeout and error: batter strikes out, pitch is not caught, defense recovers in time to retire batter and batter reaches base because of an error.

- Strikeout and FC: batter strikes out, pitch is not caught, defense recovers in time to retire batter and chooses not to do so to prevent a runner from advancing (e.g. scoring).
