Who is attending the SUPER SCRIMMAGE FUNDRAISER this weekend in Cleveland? Word has it that there are 72 teams involved. Great cause, let's hope for good weather.

just a little note about scrimmages.. We post scores becasue everyone is curious. It does not mean a whole lot because everyone is changing things and experimenting.. But This is a game. If you are hosting, then you are paying for umpires to be there and the only true way to gain game experience, is to play a game. So please dont ask me to put a runner on base. If you want her there, she better make it there. If I wanted to practice with another team, I would invite them over and we can run situations all practice.
AS soon as you place a girl there, everyone knows that it is no longer for real. Yes it may be Live! but it is no longer real and you have lost real game experience! Real game experience cannot be simulated, it has to be real! I can simulate runners all day at practice, I dont need another team there. Do you think the players feel differently just because that base runner has on a different uniform?

suggestion: Schedule scrimmages with teams that you will benefit from playing. Both teams will gain valuable experience and you will get into real situations. There is no substitute for real games.

Here is another way I look at it. This is a game and we are here to win it. Coaches will make changes that they would not normally make, in an effort to see different things, but I still want all my players, regardless of where they are, to try and win the contest. That is what you will expect of them later, right? So, If we start randomly placing players on bases, then we are no longer trying to win, and therefore it becomes a practice. Also if you are scrimmaging my team and you are not trying to defeat my team, then I am not benefiting by playing you, because Im pretty sure that when I play teams later... they will be trying to beat us. I want my girls to see that, feel that and expereince that ,which they cannot do if you just want to practice situations with us!

Ok off my little scrimmage soap box..

Good luck all

Glad to see some scrimmages are getting played. We've had two canceled and woke up to two inches of snow this am. Why doesn't the OHSAA move softball to Fall already?! First regular season game Monday probably won't happen either.

Kinda thought the word SCRIMMAGE implied PRACTICE game. Otherwise some chucklehead would count it towards their record. Mostly straight up innings, and later a few situations. I knew an uninformed coach once that ruined an entire season for a team because he didn't know the difference between a scrimmage and NATIONALS, give me a break.

So when your Travel team goes to ITB this summer, you will decline to put a runner on 2nd base??? Let me know when that happens. I know that HS and travel ball have different rules, but your posting can apply to both. I have seen teams that have a dominate pitcher fall apart when a runner gets on base because the defense doesn't know what to do. If you are not using every opportunity to teach and gain the girls some experience then you, as a coach, are not doing your job. Every girl that is on a HS team gives her best in every situation that her coach puts her in, whether it is practice, scrimmage, or a game. To suggest otherwise is not showing much respect for the the girls involved.

BTW, the Lancaster HS Tournament uses ITB.

I disagree....scrimmage is a PRACTICE game. Now if both coaches wish to run it straight up...fine. If they want to practice situations....fine too. As long as the girls are getting better. But to post scores as if they have any meaning....nah.

Monday's the day when they have meaning!!!! Let the games begin!!

Because you'd play the back third of the season in cold darkness, and there is just as much rain in October. Ask the football players

I've got to agree with On The Bucket. I know for a fact our team approaches a scrimmage with the mind set of figuring out what we're going to do when it matters. Trying things and players that we might never try starting next week. Heck, Webster's definition of scrimmage is practice play between two squads. :)

I agree with you, but some folks have to get their braggin in early they tend to go poopoo, about half way thru the season

No braggin just been a long winter and thought peeps would like to have a thread to talk about their teams getting out on the field for the first time. I think all the Bah Humbuggin brought the snow back!
