I am sure this could go many different ways, so I am curious to hear opinions, especially those involved in college programs or closely involved. I don't have a DD at the point where this is an issue, I am just very curious about the process.

Assuming the following...or maybe these are misguided assumptions)

*Many 12u, 14u or even 16u players are not completely developed, skills and game knowledge. Playing time is still very important for player development.

*Recruiting at 12u and 14u is becoming more common

*Showcasing, is playing to show individual skill ans not necessarily playing for the win with normal game strategies.

*A good showcase team will have a larger roster and very well skilled athletes. Playing time is necessarily available for player development. Playing time is reserved primarily for being seen

How much time showcasing vs competing for
12u?
14u?
16u?
18u?
On a 8-10 tournament schedule you spend 2 -4 tournaments a year competing for scholarships and 6-8 tournaments a year competing to be the best team at 12u and vice-versa at 16u?

Is there a best time of year for showcasing for players that are 0-1 years from college, and a different for those that are 2+ years away, or even 4+? For example do coaches tend to try to beat other teams to the young players in fall and find the missing pieces for next season in he spring/summer?

Can 1 team serve a practical purpose for both showcasing and competing? Would athletes be better served to play on 2 teams, a showcasing team that plays PGF and open roster events, and another team that competes in ASA/NSA/etc tournaments?
